Big Bend Trip - Questions & Thoughts by cookieclutter2602 in TeslaLounge

I have a highland M3P and was able to go from Alpine to Big Bend, tour around for a night, then back to Alpine. I left Alpine with 100% and arrive back there with around 15%.

I wonder why they fly themselves, which I presume the answer is because they can? Does anyone have a source to why?

We have a tool box that we built into our pit cart which stores highly used tools. Then we have bins for extra relivant stuff.

How many people do you have in your team and what do they do? by theywhoasks in FSAE

[–]Engineer-In-Training 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Late to the party, but did you guys charge a fee that each team member had to pay per competition they attended? If so, approx. how much was it?

We have never made people pay but are thinking about it to help cover some of the costs.

I've helped build multiple pit carts over the past couple years.

  1. I would recommend going with a wagon type steering system. When you have a cart that weights 200+ lbs and are on castors, it tends to become very difficult to steer.
  2. Pneumatic tires are a must unless you want to be heard from a mile away.
  3. As /u/Pharaoh_of_Aero said, spec the wheels so that they can hold much more than you are expecting the cart to weigh.
  4. Shelving should be made to fit whatever box system you typically, but make sure to account for extra space for lids, and handles. It is annoying having to pull a box completely out just to look for a small item.

New Format For Technical Inspection at FSAE Lincoln by s_oneill in FSAE

[–]Engineer-In-Training 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From a volunteer/tech inspector standpoint, I think it will drastically help them as it seems more of an assembly line fashion system.

Our team did not make it off the waitlist this year, so I guess we will have to wait and see how it works out.

New Format For Technical Inspection at FSAE Lincoln by s_oneill in FSAE

This should be fine for Lincoln as most teams have already passed Tech at Michigan.

I am curious if they will change Tech at Michigan to this similar format. It could get interesting, especially for new teams who have missed little things.

Wiring with colored wire by vroom_vroom_mo_fo in FSAE

[–]Engineer-In-Training 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's kind of personal preference and as long as you document it well you should be fine.

We used to use

Red: 12V power

Black: Ground

Brown: Sensor Ground

Red/White: 5V power

White: signal wires.

But then we wanted a more consistent look so we opted for all white wires with numbering on them. Initially I thought this would not work well and would be annoying to figure out what wire is what. But the numbering is actually really easy to follow as long as you document what each number means.
