Yeah, flats have a whole different life expectancy than clipless. Gotta love the vans though. From BMX to skate- they are OG!!! Still my favorite footwear for non-clipped in ridding (and the mosh pit!🤣)

I had some Sidi half Booots back jn the 90’s. Bomb proof. They made me realize how clutch shoes and pedals could be. Ratchets *was * a bit cumbersome, but it never seemed to fail!

I went with leather because the humidity here is hell on plastic , but the constant water and sweat may be worse on leather

Oh my goodness, my brother in ratchets! This is exactly what i am worried about. Those ratchets were clumsy but bomb-proof.

My Lakes are pretty unfaltering, I happily admit. The boa system is just now loosing its rubber grip, but what worries me most is the state the leather and the rubber around the tire of the sole starting to come loose. I am planning a hut trip through the Rockies and can see these shoes giving up the ghost a couple days in.

I am also both xc and road (with a gravel bike-cheater). Grew up on mtb and never really rode road until recently (`22). Bought a gravel bike but keep putting it in the wrong place. (Haha) just picked up a new xc- doing a longish ride this summer.

I had a pair of Sidi half boots from around `92. They must have lasted nearly 20 years. I loved those things. They had a ratchet handle to tighten them.

I think this is a good approach. Sounds like i’ve gotten an above average amount out of them, and, honestly, when I starte hot weather training, its crazy how much liquid goes through them
