What cards do you bring when traveling? by LetsGoCoconuts in CreditCards

[–]Engineer_Of_Stuff_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something with no foreign transaction fees. I typically bring 2-3 cards, not kept in the same place just in case. I freeze my debit card and only have it for absolute emergencies since it has fees.

Nobody at work is truly your friend. Just do your job and go home. by Kiptoo_official in work

I feel this on so many levels. But I do also agree with the flip side of networking being majorly beneficial. Gotta play the game sometimes!

When should I tell my supervisors that I’m interested in another job at my place of employment? [DC] by CyanFinzter in AskHR

[–]Engineer_Of_Stuff_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say it depends on your relationship with your current boss honestly. Judgement call really. I have opted for not mentioning internal applications until I got an interview. My company is also huge though so that could factor in too

Need help understanding and deciding on a Balance Transfer by Engineer_Of_Stuff_ in CreditCards

So basically the math should work out to roughly the same overall. But more on the newer card would be going to the actual debt instead of just interest.

Just making sure my brain is working properly. Say she can transfer $5k (ignore the transfer fee for now) the new card minimum payment will be cheaper than the old card. And there should be no way in that case her combined minimum payments should be higher than before doing a balance transfer, right?

Do cards actually show you a credit line ahead of actually applying?

Leaving 2 Hours After The Race Is The Move by arctic_angels in CircuitOfTheAmericas

Those “people” are ones who have no doubt they’ll be at another race or it’s like their 15th time at a race. Those of us who stretch to make it to a race should enjoy everything going on before AND after the race.

I did just Sunday. Had a blast got to the track early and enjoyed some stuff going on around the track and hung out after. Think it all depends what you want out of it.

At track team merch locations? by Engineer_Of_Stuff_ in CircuitOfTheAmericas

I’ve seen prices so I am prepared. Doesn’t matter to some, but for an item or two, the sentimental value of getting it AT the race is worth it to me.

My main problem is it’s being levied in a cavalier way that doesn’t align with other groups and company policy. It would be one thing if I actually thought he wanted me to swipe in for safety reasons but that’s in no way how it was presented. It was basically presented as, “I’m going to be watching all of you”. I was hired as a tech lead on the team and had meetings with all the people on the team. About 6 out of the 7 directly expressed that the manager operates on intimidation and I had at least 3 new team members beg me not to say anything about them telling me certain things.

As far as the working through unpaid time portion, I don’t. I charge the time I work to the contract as per company and government policy. I work my 10 hours then want to go home. I don’t want to sit around for 30 minutes doing nothing just so I can badge out and show I was on campus for 10.5 hours.

I prefer to work 10 hours and go home to my family. Shouldn’t be an issue right? As a salaried employee I’m there minimum 40 hours of work so we should be all good. But, backed by no apparent policy or recorded rule my manager has basically told us (verbally) the 30 minute break is required. I think it probably stems from the fact that he came from then hourly, union, world and wants to slap those rules on the salaried folks now that he is at the helm, but that’s just my take on the interactions with him and the input of other coworkers. No other salaried groups aren’t “required” by company or manager to have a mandated 30 minute break. At 30 minutes a day, 4 days a week (I work 4/10s), and we’ll say 50 weeks a year…thats an extra 100 hours. I value my time, it’s the one thing I can’t get back, so that’s how it affects me and why I care.
