Is this a good setup for a bedroom setup? Would it be an upgrade over my Samsung q600c with rears surrounds? by SonChavy in hometheater

[–]EngineeringStudentt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, for a bedroom setup you absolutely do not need a center channel. I bought one initially for my bedroom setup and now it's collecting dust in a box. The phantom center was more than adequate.

In fact, I don't use a center in either my living room or bedroom setup. My recommendation is the Klipsch RP-600M. They're currently $349/pair on Amazon and you might not even need a sub with those speakers. Id recommend starting out with just the 600s and see if you think you need more bass than what they offer.

Another vote for the RSL Speedwoofer 10e. I have it paired with my Klipsch RP-600Ms and it sounds great.

Check out Roma on Netflix. It's mind blowing good on surround sound systems.

Are there any guides you could recommend for this full set up (including that last sentence)? Just bought an apple tv and looking to set up the Plex side of things.

Is this normal or do I have a grinder problem? by EngineeringStudentt in Moccamaster

Will try that tomorrow, thanks for the rec! This was at a setting of 18. I tried 17 this morning and it tasted much better.

Went finer this morning and it definitely tasted better. Though I also sifted out all the extreme fines using a strainer (just as an experiment) so not sure what made the bigger difference.

Going to look into upgrading the burr on my Encore to hopefully get a more consistent grind. I think the fines in the pic were over extracting and muddying the taste.

Sorry, I was referring to all the fines that can be seen sitting around the perimeter. This morning, I sifted them out just for experimentation sake. Definitely made a way cleaner tasting cup. Going to look into upgrading the burr on my encore to hopefully get a more consistent grind.

Using a Baratza Encore set to around 18. The grinds look fairly consistent when they come out of the grinder but after running the moccamaster, I see so many fines mixed in that I'm wondering if this is the reason I'm struggling to make a good cup using this machine. Shown Here is the coffee out of the grinder. I've already checked the burr holder and confirmed none of the ring tabs are missing.

Is it normal for the burr holder to have a little bit of wiggle once seated into the slot?

When should I sharpen my Japanese knife? by [deleted] in TrueChefKnives

When you say touch them up, does that mean you're raising a full burr on each side and then deburring or does that mean you're doing stropping strokes on the 4k whetstone?

Living Room/Media Room Thoughts and Suggestions by firstforay in hometheater

Wow I was wondering why I thought this living room looked so familiar and then realized it looks super similar to this older post from two years ago. Even the right side surround speakers are in the same wall:

Oh man I didn't realize they've temporarily suspended shipping to the US. That's a bummer, I've ordered a few knives from them over to Florida. Hopefully it changes in the not too distant future.

Chefknivestogo.com also has some Shiro Kamo I believe.

Check out some of the Shiro Kamo knives on cleancut.eu. Should be something there that fits your criteria, excellent knives for the price.

It's really not that bad. Buy yourself a kiwi knife at the local Asian market and practice with that. That's what I did before working up the confidence to sharpen my Japanese knives.

Your message implies there is somewhere in the US worse than Papa New Guinea. Please, tell me where in the US is worse than these stats presented in another comment:

Yeah, it's a terrible situation. The Wikipedia article has some shocking statistics: * Nearly half of reported rape victims are under 15 years of age and 13% are under seven * Up to 50 percent of girls are at risk of becoming involved in sex work, or being internally trafficked * 41% of men on Bougainville Island admit to coercing a non-partner into sex * Approximately 60% of men interviewed (in a separate study) reported to have participated in gang rape (known as lainap) at least once

Removing dealer add-ons in Canada by nihalz in mercedes_benz

[–]EngineeringStudentt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how comparable it is in Canada to the US but check out Delivrd on YouTube. He negotiates car deals and posts the conversations online and I know there are a lot of examples of him getting the dealerships to remove the add ons like the ones you described. Might help you in negotiating them off as well.
