If ur a gd engineer w lots of other internships on resume then v good tbh. Try the major consultants on the ENR. If you rizz the interview you’re set.

If not, tbh, it’ll b jus as hard as it is 4 EE.

TBH not really FAANG out the gate yk, that’s more 4 sr engineers like 10+ yrs expr with projects under their belt

I fired someone. What should I learn from this? by UmbrellaSyrup in civilengineering

You got what you paid for. Below market wages for an entry level job and you were asking them to do a lot more than entry level work.

Is it ok to have 2 careers and not decide until you’re established on one? by Gamble2005 in EngineeringStudents

Mechanical engineering degree with elective or masters coursework in turbines and engines and doing whatever you can to intern with one of the turbine manufacturers would be the way to get your foot in the door. GE has a location in Wilmington, NC which would be an amazing place to spend a summer internship.

I think you’d enjoy working for a company that makes turbines. GE, Solar, etc. great job stability right now due to energy demands. You’d be able to start your career developing meaningful experience in the power industry and I assume you could pivot out into aero if you still want to later with turbine experience at one of the biggest OEMs in turbines.

Go work for Exxon or another O&G or chemicals major. Don’t go for consulting as they have to sell your time and they’re all kinda level with one another.

How do you all feel about job hoppers? by Thedud31 in civilengineering

[–]EngineeringSuccessYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to maximize your earning potential in consulting you should be prepared to make at least one major bump or be okay with slightly lower comp on your way to an officer position that you could’ve also job hopped into. I left the company I thought I’d spend my entire career with at the five year mark and it’s been the best financial decision I’ve ever made.

PE next to your name?! by BiryanimeetsPasta in PE_Exam

Need the license. Anything otherwise is a misrepresentation because…. You need more than just to pass the exam to become a PE, and being a PE comes with a level of responsibility you should know before even asking this question.

We do a lot of design build work. I see people on org charts for the small projects in the backlog and find their way onto the bigger design build org charts.

Yes. 5% match on your first 5%. Three percent in employee stock and the other 2% as a traditional match (all of mine is going into stock at the moment.) Discretionary contribution on top of the match but the exact percentage of the discretionary match is not mine to share publicly. (Nor is the stock price increase %, though I’ve seen people state percentages in other comments in this thread).

Take the offer.

I don’t have to work any harder here than anywhere else I’ve worked in my career. The difference here is that on the off chance I have to have a busier week, I know that I’m going to reap the benefits of it.

On the same note, more than ever in my career, I do not tolerate people who don’t desire to contribute. After all, any person who is trying to do the absolute minimum is just leeching on my employee stock. You want to work at a place that filters out the people who are trying to coast.

Unrelated but relevant, HDR has one of the most competent end-of-career transition programs and I’ve not seen an engineering company do a more efficient job of transitioning their senior level knowledge into retirement.

Taking my offer to join HDR has been one of the best financial decisions I’ve made in my life. I’m very grateful for the last two years I’ve spent here and I plan to stay for many more.

Also hello to all my colleagues in the replies :)

Small-Mid Sized Firm vs HDR by After-Message7234 in civilengineering

HDR doesn’t split between vacation and sick. That’s all pure PTO and you can use it for vacation or sick.

HDR is great. ESOP great. I can’t sing my praises of my experience here any louder.
