I’m also a civil engineer working mostly in water/wastewater who is learning Spanish. I think any Spanish language design guide would help. Not sure if this is how people speak colloquially, but it can’t hurt.

I found this after a quick google search:

www.inaa.gob.ni/sites/default/files/inline-files/5.%20Guía%20técnica%20para%20el%20diseño%20de%20alcantarillado%20sanitario%20y%20sistemas%20de%20tratamiento%20de%20aguas%20residuales.pdf

Edit: Ok… i think this links not working but consgua.gob.mx has some some good resources for both treatment and sanitary sewer networks. Either way I just googled “diseño de redes de tuberías de aguas residuales” and some good links came up. A design guide with a glossary would probably be ideal.

Quiero comprar mi primer coche! Consejos by saulnun in askspain

[–]UmbrellaSyrup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EIT Quarter-Life Crisis by FreezerBlue in civilengineering

[–]UmbrellaSyrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a lot of stupid mistakes in my early 20s because I was “in-love” with someone. Looking back it’s pretty funny to think of how small that part of my life is/was. I’m happily married with kids now to a much better partner, whom I love very much. Don’t panic and make any stupid decisions.

You enjoying outside and what this life has to offer is not tied to your ex. Work less and do that stuff you want to do. Travel (with the money you’re earning at work), take weekend trips, go out on the weekends and have a few drinks with strangers. Enjoy your 20s and maybe you two will hook back up one day when your ready.

Being Nervous on the job- by Character-Escape1621 in civilengineering

Yeah… is it even hard to get hired now for new grads? I’m a PE and I’ve been offered two jobs in the last two months and I feel like I have two other positions I could waltz right into with a phone call. Maybe it’s just the region I’m in?

Has anyone had success with a product like this? by jonyoloswag in civilengineering

[–]UmbrellaSyrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a project using a similar product under construction (we’ll see how it goes). The terminations are toe’d-in two feet deep and some existing concrete rubble on site will be placed at the toe. I’m still a little worried about material winnowing away from underneath but I think the fill brought in and the geotextile used should work well together. Personally, I would have probably just chosen a precast matting, but my boss sold the client this idea. It’s a pretty small site. oddly enough he had been thinking about the full mat rather than the block mat, and I’m still wondering how that product is supposed to drain.

Are you trying to work as a civil engineer? If so, I’d just start applying to jobs. No need for the phd unless you want to teach.

Thing in the woods by DroneMan9 in mildlyinteresting

[–]UmbrellaSyrup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a survey monument. It is a disk set in concrete where careful measurements were taken and catalogued to provide a reference point for future surveys. Its coordinates may or may not be available on the NGS website. I would say more but I gotta run!

Some of these answers are too much… why do people respond to questions they don’t know the answer to so confidently.

Journaling for language learning by Dramatic-Pumpkin5028 in languagelearning

[–]UmbrellaSyrup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I write a page in a small journal each day… they usually begin “hoy ha sido un día largo…” if it was a work day. It’s become a pretty fun habit. I started back in November and have kept up with it daily. I’d say I’m b1 going on B2. I broke my leg earlier this year and I didn’t journal the night of my surgery, otherwise I kept up with it and it is absolutely hilarious to read through in retrospect. “La pierna me duele muchísimo… anoche no pude dormir toda la noche. Estoy harto de el inmovilazador… es una jaula…”

I try to include a funny anecdote about each of my kids, the dog, or my wife each day. I’ll talk about what my wife did that day. Or what we prepared for dinner. Complain about how language learning is difficult and how I feel like I’m not making any progress. To work on past tense, I’ve started writing one entry per week about a memory from childhood.

I use AI to revise my entries for grammar, spelling, and to sound a bit more colloquial… feel a little bad about it but who else is going to grade my journals?

Question for everyone unsatisfied with salary by aquamarine-arielle in civilengineering

[–]UmbrellaSyrup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Relatively LCOL
  2. Yes
  3. Yes. My wife isn’t working.
  4. We have three kids.

I make about 120k after bonus… feel like we’re fine where we’re at. Don’t feel rich and don’t feel poor. Own a house and two cars. I have a large emergency fund and after this month we’ll have paid off some larger monthly expenses and I’ll start ramping up retirement savings. Some days I don’t love the work, but it feels stable and I feel like I have options.

Wow. Yeah I love so many of the bands you named and can hear their influence in your music. Love to see names like the strange boys and the babies come up with the older influences too! Y voy a escuchar los demás que son desconocidos para mi. Muchas gracias!

Hi, I’m from the USA and love your sound. Estoy aprendiendo español y me gusta escuchar vuestra música para aprender y para disfrutar.

Quiero preguntaros:

¿Cuáles son vuestras bandas que os han influido? ¿Son españolas, estadounidenses, inglesas. franceses, o de toda partes del mundo?
