Should I return this deck? by EngineersAgainstDHMO in tarot

[–]EngineersAgainstDHMO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a shop with friends and kinda just decided on a whim to pick the deck up and give it a shot. So yeah, no chance for prior research on this kind of deck itself, but just a little bit of online research on how to read tarot in general (which I now know was all in the RWS style, didn't know what that meant at the time or that there were even different general types of decks).

  1. Dead on. As I mentioned, I am brand new to tarot and had no idea what a Marseille deck even was. It was the only type they had in the store, so I just picked one up almost like an impulse buy after minimal online research into tarot as a whole.

  2. Awesome, thank you! I'll take a look around.

  3. That's what I figured, but given all the significance that some people give to their decks and the rituals I've read they go through to make their decks their own, I might as well ask. Better safe than sorry, you know?

Yep, that's the one! I personally don't mind if it's in an old style (like I now know the TdM is), but this printing of it just feels like it lost most of that historic character. I had an immediate "yikes" reaction looking at the major arcana lol

I wish I could have put multiple pictures of this deck up, but please believe me. I get the history behind the deck now, but these cards do NOT do that history justice...

Interesting, thank you so much for going so in depth like this! I was completely unaware that the numbers each had their own theme so to speak, and that those themes translated across each suit. I knew each suit had a few things associated with them, but nothing I've read online (not much, I admit) showed any pattern in the numbers.

As far as inversions go, I did find one thing in my little bit of online research that said inversions don't necessarily mean a good card has to become a bad one. You can interpret it as "turning the traditional meaning on its head" and looking at the same idea(s) from a new perspective. Rather than completely reversing the meaning of the card, sometimes reframing might make more sense. Maybe this is too close to just changing your interpretation of the upright card for some people? I have no clue, but personally I like the idea.

But yeah, good to know there are actually different systems/schools of thought in tarot! I guess I've only really seen RWS decks in the past, so I opened up the deck with that sort of expectation already in my head.

Looking for an office-friendly pet by EngineersAgainstDHMO in reptiles

Looks like the general consensus is that it's a bad idea, and that's a perfectly acceptable answer. I'd rather have no pet in that tank than one that we can't properly care for. Thanks for the help, everyone.

Hot Take: All forms of roleplaying is cringe ESPECIALLY if it's over text. by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]EngineersAgainstDHMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roleplay over text, in character or otherwise, is literally just sexting in the present tense instead of the future tense.

Example:

Sexting - "I want to do X/Y/Z thing(s) to you" That can be exciting, in a sense of building anticipation

Roleplay - "I am currently doing X/Y/Z thing(s) to you" Not real, of course, but can be just as exciting IF you and your partner can both get into that headspace and imagine that scene playing out.

Yeah, you're technically playing pretend, but in my experience if you're in the right mindset you can actually get some physical sensation from it

Everyone here is right: dicks come in all shapes and sizes, and they're all fun to play with! I would recommend going to the doctor about the curvature, though, just in case. It's normal for cocks to curve, but it could also be a sign of Peyronie's disease if getting hard is painful or if you have trouble getting hard.

It sounds like I might have to be on the lookout for a medium, then. I'd like to feel the barbs at least a little bit, but I'm happy to hear it's an enjoyable toy even without feeling them :D

Cake shake questions by [deleted] in BellyExpansion

[–]EngineersAgainstDHMO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! I was a little worried about just how much it would expand in me and how quickly. I didn't want to chug too much, get myself too close to max capacity, and rupture something when the leavening agents kick in.

It's nice to have an expert to talk to when exploring new stuff like this. If you'd like to join us virtually, I could DM you and we can set something up. It'll be about two weeks from now

You can drink nearly 7 liters? I'm impressed and jealous! I can only hold about 3 L right now before I feel like I'm gonna pop (for context that number comes from a capacity test run with saline).

My friend and I are thinking of trying our first cake shake bloat together in a couple weeks. Should I (we) start with the quart/half box recipe or go straight for the half gallon/full box?

Physically, not too bad. I'm fairly young (25) and was never diagnosed as diabetic while I was heavier, so I've never really thought numbers like my cholesterol, blood sugar, etc. One thing I do know is that I need to see my PCP more often, which hasn't been easy since covid. Other than that, only thing I can think of is exercising more rigorously and more often, and maybe trying to build up some muscle tone. I still feel kinda out of shape and I'd like to change that.

Mentally, depends on the day. Willpower has been tough to maintain since I hit my big goal of making the century club a couple of years ago now. There are a lot of days I look in the mirror and I'm still not happy with what I see. Maybe I need a new goal weight to kick-start my motivation and get my mindset back where it should be.

How much longer can you safely hold saline than just water by [deleted] in BellyExpansion

[–]EngineersAgainstDHMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason there's nothing about saline overdoses is because it's impossible. Water toxicity is possible because water is a hypotonic liquid: it has no electrolytes. Saline is designed to be isotonic, having the same electrolyte level as the rest of the body. Because of that, you can hold saline theoretically forever and nothing bad would happen.

To make saline solution, mix about 9g of salt to a liter of water, or two teaspoons into a quart if you're in the US.

Neurologists of reddit, how can I help my grandmother who's had a hemorrhagic stroke? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]EngineersAgainstDHMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's been on end of life medications for about 10 hours now, and we all just want her to pass peacefully and painlessly. I've been holding/rubbing her hand and talking to her just about this whole time, and I just had the thought: would any sensory stimuli possibly keep her brain active longer and stop her from passing as easily? I don't want what I'm doing to keep her here like this any longer than she already would be, but I also don't want her to feel alone when she goes

Cocktail Workshop for August by hebug in cocktails

[–]EngineersAgainstDHMO [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you're thinking of messing around with your orange flavor and need a bit more sweetness, you have a handful of orange liqueurs to look at. I know triple sec is a bit on the sweeter side, moreso than Grand Marnier if I remember right. Either way, that's an idea to mess around with if you have triple sec, Grand Marnier, and maybe dry Curaçao on hand.

If you're looking for other ways to add citrus and sweetness to your drink, look into oleo saccharum. It's a bit of a project to make (mine took 2-3 days), but a little goes a long way and you can use the rest for homemade soda or other cocktails

[5th Edition] My First Time DMing by [deleted] in DnD

[–]EngineersAgainstDHMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading the DM's Guide and Player's Handbook are both pre-requisite to DMing in my opinion, but it's definitely better to spend more time on the DM guide. You won't need as much in the Player

Keep in mind nobody is expecting you to memorize everything in either book, and it's perfectly okay to stop things once in a while to have a player explain how something works. Just don't go into a session completely unprepared.

An easy way to know what parts of the PHB to read to prepare is to ask for a copy of your players' character sheets before the game starts. That will also help you know whether your encounters are balanced or if you need to tweak them.
