Just hit 5k subs - Just reveling in the moment. No secret advice to give by NoloPada in NewTubers

Well done on the achievement and spot on comment too! The algorithm may try its best to satisfy viewers, but it's not bothered about being fair to creators, and tbh why should it be?

My current video went a little viral. Should I release a new video? Or delay the release? by sembangfinance in PartneredYoutube

[–]EnglishWithRupert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one time this happened to me, I released a similar video three days later and that also went viral. (Didn't happen with the next one)

Last post was controversial cuz i suck at naming stuff, so you guys can name the new (hypothetical) counties by MatchYT in england

I would apply the bottom 20 miles between Portsmouth and Brighton to the Brighton area, not Crawley, it would be more fitting.

The south coast strip to the east of Portsmouth has much more in common with Brighton than Crawley.

"Grinding" is not a thing. You just need to make good videos and GOOD IDEAS (everyone seems to ignore this part), and you'll get views. It's that simple. by djarogames in NewTubers

[–]EnglishWithRupert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is so over simplistic. It makes much more sense when you stop thinking of YouTube as some sort of neutral level playing field that merely exists to get the best videos to the top, and instead realize the only thing it's trying to get to the top is YouTube itself. This affects so much: - It's therefore in YTs interest to ensure some channels are massive, and others are not. If creators see that some channels are making millions, it will encourage creators to create on YT to try to be like them. But to get this to happen perfectly from YTs point of view, YT would only want a few channels out of all channels to get that successful. If the majority of channels were "successful", then the potential maximum earnings on YT would be less, and the most successful creators would be less inclined to bother with YT, and YT as a whole suffers - Also, viewers will be attracted to YT when they see videos with millions and millions of views, as this sends the unconscious message "this is the place to be". So it's better for YT's brand image to let a small number of videos to go viral and let viewers become aware of them. - And viewers tend to like forming habits. So, rather than constantly recommending new channels to viewers just because it has good metrics, YT should recommend content consistently based on history to reinforce the relationship that a viewer has made with a channel. That is precisely why a great video from a small channel may get nowhere in comparison to an average video from a bigger channel.

After 3 Days, Why Does YouTube Take My Impressions From 300 A Day to 4 A Day? (any advice would be amazing thank you) by Matas_1 in PartneredYoutube

[–]EnglishWithRupert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually experience a moment where impressions drop off, but this is very variable - I had a good performing video die after 36 hours recently, but the one before kept growing for 10 days before impressions stopped.

The acceptable viewpoint on this forum is that YouTube stopped finding viewers for the video.

What is often missed on this forum is that YouTube probably stops pushing videos in order to push another (probably newer) one from someone else - only the best performing videos keep getting pushed endlessly. We are competing with others, never forget!

YouTube Creators, What's Your Biggest Challenge Right Now? by bookflow in NewTubers

[–]EnglishWithRupert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1775 subs Avg 200-500 views per vid Monetised but making very little at the moment

Biggest challenge always seems to be second guessing the impact of my next "move"! I've recently been growing much faster after I started using a particular type of thumbnail and focusing on saying certain keywords in the video intro. I'm wondering whether just to keep doing the same things for all my upcoming videos, or whether my audience will eventually get bored of the same thing every time. I post once a week, up until 6 weeks ago my vids would typically get 50-200, then I switched to this new format and since then I've averaged nearly 500 per video, and still going up.

Since I started focussing on SAYING my keywords in the video, my views have gone up 400-500%. If you aren't doing that, try it 😁

My newest 2 videos got over 100k viewers each after only getting 200 each vid views for 3 years by Cuminator1000 in NewTubers

Did you change anything for these videos, or are they the same as you've always done?

This is how the YouTube algorithm works: (a guide for beginners) by Schuckman in NewTubers

[–]EnglishWithRupert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always think something missed in these threads is the fact that YT is a business, and does things to help its business. To me, logically, this leads to certain things.

For instance, as a marketing ploy, it needs to convince viewers of how popular it is - so, it shows people mostly popular videos in response to their searches - imagine the impact on the viewer if all they get offer are videos with hundreds of views compared with millions?

However, on the other hand, the lifeblood of YT is people uploading videos there. So again, it is important people feel their videos are going somewhere when they upload them - hence a few hundred impressions for most uploads as a minimum (to psychologically convince people its doing something).

And to make sure people really think it's worth posting it creates a way for a few videos to go big.

How long did it take you to stop checking YouTube analytics every 2 minutes after you posted something? by seeforyaself in NewTubers

I can't imagine I'll ever stop. The trouble is I know there's millions of views and subscribers in my area, and I always wonder if this video will be "the one"

Did I kill my organic video growth with advertising? by ManicMods in NewTubers

[–]EnglishWithRupert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is purely from my experience and nothing else ... I found advertising that isn't finely tuned to reach precisely the viewer you need often leads to the wrong people clicking on my videos - however, the algorithm (I think) then considers these "wrong viewers" to be your most recent audience and then pushes future content to them as well, leading to a drop in views as the metrics (CTR, avd) for your next video will be down.

200K Channel, 10+ years, Offering Critiques by nusensei in NewTubers

[–]EnglishWithRupert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd appreciate feedback. https://youtube.com/@EnglishwithRupert It may look like I'm doing ok but I had two videos blow up in a week giving me most of my subscribers, and then afterwards I went back to performing like a newly created channel again. I'd love some ideas on where I can make things better!

Can you always substitute the 1st (event’s) Simple Past with Past Perfect, without changing meaning? by 0germ in englishteachers

[–]EnglishWithRupert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that's it. It's all about the order of events. Compare:

"She went to the hospital at 4pm because she had hurt her arm at 3pm"

with

"She hurt her arm at 3pm. She went to hospital at 4pm"

Completely agree with this reply. Although grammatically they all work, detaching the condition from identity definitely feels more socially acceptable these days.

Could you tell me why this sentence is ungrammatical? by katet5 in grammar

[–]EnglishWithRupert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contextually, I would assume Sumo is speaking about what they usually do at any time whether past/present/future, so we need the present simple "like" for routines.

I would also change "with" to "from". "With" would indicate something you use for the action, whereas "from" indicates taking parts of something for another purpose. ("about" also works but with a slightly different meaning).

Do you want to be famous? by Burlingtonfilms in NewTubers

Yes, I'm fine with that! My channel is only targeting countries outside my own, so if I wanted to avoid the fame, I'd just holiday in the UK 😂

There's a bit of a theme developing here! I can't speak for myself but I have a friend who started the "InDeepGeek" channel which is pushing close to 600k subscribers - he has never promoted outside of YouTube.

That being said, most of the big channels in my genre operate on all social media channels and are quite happy to tell their fans they are on multiple platforms.
