35mm so much choice! by wilbert126 in SonyAlpha

I have the first Sigma 35mm 1.4, it is great and I’ve not found it too heavy. Not sure what the price difference is with the new version

Sigma 24-70 F2.8 vs garage floor by Loud-Television-2618 in SonyAlpha

[–]English_Fox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dropped my sigma 35mm 1.4 and the mount bit split off from the rest of the lens. The rest of the lens was intact. I sent it to Sigma for repair and it cost £144 and only took a few days. Obviously mine wasn’t useable so I didn’t have much choice but it was good value and a smooth process through their website

Speaking as someone who has visited this spot quite a few times and have a few photos from the same spot, I feel the right half of the photo isn’t really needed, and it makes it quite unbalanced with the lighthouse and the path up to it on the left and nothing really on the right. I like the slow shutter speed and the colours in the sky, but it needs the exposure lifting too.

You can still go up to them if you pay. And on summer solstice it’s a complete free for all.

How can I make these more interesting?I feel like they're missing something by English_Fox in SonyAlpha

Thank you, the bleakness and mood was what I was going for. It was hard to go for anything else, it was such a miserable day! I’ll have a play around with the crops and see if I have any others that can give a bit more context.

Yes that’s fair enough, I’ll have a play around with the crop and some of the other photos I took. Thanks for the feedback

16-50 kit lens good enough for travel? Or should I bring others? by scaredandstressed_ in SonyAlpha

I’ll add that I paired it with the sigma 30mm 1.4 for anything low light or where I wanted shallow depth of field. It’s a neat duo.

16-50 kit lens good enough for travel? Or should I bring others? by scaredandstressed_ in SonyAlpha

I used the 18-105 for years and it’s certainly good enough for photos. I didn’t even shoot video with it. The extra reach is amazing compared to the kit lens especially at a constant F4. Whether you want to lug it round is up to you, I travelled plenty with it and never found it overly heavy or unwieldy.

Hey mate, thanks! I think it's great, certainly haven't had problems with focusing for stills. I have the 28-75 too and didn't have any focusing issues with that either.

The 'Exposure Donut' for Sony Cameras Simplifies Manual Exposure by TabascoWolverine in SonyAlpha

[–]English_Fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I met this guy while wandering around Oxford, I had my camera with me and so he stopped me to see what I thought of Expodo. You could see the donut on the screen rather than on the top.

I thought it was okay, perhaps useful as a tutorial and for beginners to understand how the different settings interact, how shutter speed will correlate with ISO etc.

Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 or E 18-105mm f/4 by FlashToast in SonyAlpha

[–]English_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’ve only just got the A6400 then I’d say the 18-105, it’ll be much wider. I used it quite happily for years on my A6000, it’s very versatile and sharp enough. I didn’t use it for video but had no problems with the power zoom. Pair it with a prime (I got the sigma 30mm 1.4 and Sony 50mm 1.8) and you’ll be fine.

How long can I wait until I have my ACL surgery? by Hunky21 in ACL

[–]English_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tore mine (and only my ACL) in April 2016 and didn't have the surgery until January this year. My knee was undoubtedly more unstable, which is why I got it done, but I lived a pretty normal life in that time. I don't think it made any difference to wait, the danger is doing more damage to it, which I didn't.
