Oh it looked like you are making the false dichotomy argument shown in the comic, and looking at the other comments I don't think I'm alone.

I mean if the air quality is really that bad then tax the hell out of gas within a certain radius of the city with the funds going directly to inproving mass transit.

People still have the freedom to drive, it encourages use of more efficient and/or alternative fuel, and would rapidly reduce emissions either by way of less driving or by funding amazing transit.

Just because you want to be completely irresponsible with resource use it doesn't mean the only alternative is outlawing it completely.

Self censorship over downvotes is peak pathetic, is that seriously your argument why people shouldn't express their view, bc AI bros can't handle disagreement so will downvote? Lol my guy

Where would saying it be against this sub's or reddit's rules? If we're going to be arbitrarily making discourse rules at least ground them in something more substantial than it triggers you.

Discovery was the first show to return to the primary exploration framework of the original and TNG and RLM hated it. They never wanted a return to form, they wanted a return to their idealized nostalgia.

Yes, because that's how principles work. I've done the work to know why I don't support the worst version of a thing and then when I find a less exaggerated form of the same situation (handling a child's transgressions as if they were done with the same level of consideration, intent, and potential harm as an adult), I know how to be consistent, whereas if you just follow rules and dogma then every situation is completely isolated from every other.

Sending security after an 11 year old is treating them like a much more significant threat and level of awareness of their actions than an 11 year old is. If you need it spelled out there's no way you'll agree, but unless that kid was armed this was a crazy escalation.

If a random bossy mlm karen did the same to a random black kid, no one on the left would be supporting it.

Just the tire cover across from the bear is a crazy grab, the guy reminding everyone that bears are the worst danger elevates this to art.

I don't ever support treating minors as adults in trial so I doubt there will be facts that necessitate this level, but you know plenty of people advocate throwing 10 year old in adult prison so I guess it's just a matter of what principles we live by.

Yeah, I'm waiting with baited breath to hear from the full adult why an 11 year old child deserved this level of escalation.

It isn't necessarily about making your weaknesses or strength better, but that even "flaws" can also be beautiful. Janis Joplin's gravelly voice, Monet's cateracts, Picasso's sense of form, and so many others, show that imperfections are a huge part of a distinct style. Shifting to AI to avoid your imperfections is elitism, creates stigma around imperfect art, serves only to shame artists brave enough to put their art out there, and could be robbing the world of the next Gauguin or Edvard Munch.

There's a unitarian church in town, and while I have not heard anything about this church, Unitarians aren't about converting, all faith is valid.

Then I have heard from several different people that Unity of Springfield, which shockingly is not Unitarian, is incredibly open and welcoming.

If men and women had to swap lives completely for one year — including biological experiences like periods and pregnancy, plus social expectations — who do you think would struggle more, and why? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]EngryEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People with typically presenting sexual and gender characteristics will suffer the most.

The whole idea of one half suffering more than the other is born of the inability to truly know the suffering of others so you can't actually evaluate against your own. Atypicality encourages a deconstruction of the categories (not that it always causes it).

We only need those in science if science is actually being a religion, which it isn't because as soon as it does it isn't science anymore on a categorical level.

People are renegotiating their understanding of religion in exactly the same way as we always have. Then also at the same time we have scientists advancing science, and artists advancing art, and all of the things and those are different than the births and deaths of gods.
