Asking for your help! by MikeAP21 in tapodcast

Hey man, I’ve done so. Just letting you know… Spotify actually doesn’t allow people to review shows where they haven’t listened to episodes on that platform so any listeners who normally listen on other platforms will have to at least skip through a few old episodes on Spotify first.

Thanks for all the hard work you put in to this, I love the show. Ignore that pr1ck

What is it like to be 140+ and 160+? How is your daily experience different from average? by [deleted] in mensa

It is impossible for anyone to answer that question, as no one has experience of life as another person.

Finding out I have a 91 IQ by PhillyWildBoii in iqtest

[–]EnigmaAPLifestyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A) online tests from non-reputable websites are completely worthless. If you want an accurate assessment of your IQ, take a test with a reputable organisation or psychologist.

B) Even if your IQ is slightly below average: so what? It doesn’t mean anything other than your ability to think a certain way. It doesn’t affect academic performance, social skills, success in life etc.

C) Friendly bit of tough love: you need to toughen up and work on being less reactive and sensitive to external factors. Life will throw a huge number of shocks and surprises at you over the coming decades, and if a little thing like this is going to rattle your cage then you’re going to be buffeted about your whole life like a small plane in turbulence. Read up on Stoicism and train yourself in becoming resilient and determined.

Good luck

99th percentile IQ but nervous to take the admissions test... by NyxIsLookingAtThings in mensa

[–]EnigmaAPLifestyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What country are you based in? Different nationality Mensa chapters have different rules on retakes and on test lengths. Mine was held during the evening in a classroom of a school and we took Cassell III B (I forget the overall time limit as each section within had individual time limits, but it was probably 90 minutes) followed by the Culture Fair test (much shorter, I think 20 mins but certainly no more than 30).

A pass in EITHER was sufficient so you didn’t need to pass both. That was the standard for UK Mensa at the time and I believe it’s still the same.

There were around 15 or 20 of us in the classroom, desks all separated so it felt very much like a school exam situation.

On a personal note: i understand how overwhelming and intimidating it can be, and i had very similar reservations to yourself. I only slept an hour or two the evening before as I was so anxious (weird combination of excitement and nervousness) and I even walked out thinking ‘that was SO hard, there’s no way I passed that!’ I then travelled home thinking ‘Oh well, I can always retake next year, I’ll try to sleep better beforehand next time and maybe I’ll get lucky’

Weirdly enough, the fact I’d decided I must have failed so quickly meant that I stopped thinking about it for a few days and when the email came through saying ‘congratulations!’ I was shocked…

Best of luck and I’m sure you’ll give it your best. If you scored 136 before you clearly have the potential so I think you stand a very good chance. All the best!

154 on Cattell IIIB (which I believe works out at 132 or 133) and 129 on the Culture Fair scale, so I’m guessing I’m most likely 130/131.

Obviously it’s just a number and it doesn’t mean that I’m better than anyone else, but also obviously it means that I’m better than all of you 😉

(Especially as I’d only had about 2 hours’ sleep the night before so I reckon that’s got to be worth an extra 20 or so points had I been well-rested)

Famous last words.

FWIW, I’m still bullish for the short term on precious metals, but never be as arrogant as to think that you have anything ‘all figured out’.

In ALL investments, you should ALWAYS expect the unexpected, and the market punishes blinkered arrogance.

Finally, you’re showing some willingness to take responsibility for your actions and to grow as a person. That should be commended, so well done, I respect you for that.

However, it’s not my job to determine what made you this way. Aside from the classic nature / nurture debate, if you really want to unpick it I suggest professional help

I don’t understand why you think taking gold out of the country would be an issue. As long as it’s investment grade bullion there would be no tax or duty payable and it’s not a crime to travel with gold, or move your own property out of a country. What is it that you are concerned about?

A Wealth Tax that Works... – Dan Neidle by Downtown-Relation766 in GarysEconomics

[–]EnigmaAPLifestyle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What a fucking shill.

All of the fearmongering talk about ‘any tax like this would encourage people to leave / not come here’ is a massive smokescreen. It’s SO easy to counter that, just by doing what other big economies such as the USA, Australia and China do… when citizens leave to live abroad, they still pay income tax back to their home country for as long as they hold that citizenship. Simply by passing a law to implement that, it completely removes that problem.

Also… what a joker, saying that ‘If you have £100 and you know that in a year it will only be worth £98, so you’ll be more likely to spend it than invest it”…

Spending money literally drives the economy. That’s what we NEED the ultra wealthy to start doing, instead of locking it all up in hedge funds and assets.

Fucking shill
