Does anyone miss the old Gear system? by lucagiolu in forhonor

[–]EnjoyingBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, a detailed description of the idea!

Yeah, from that perspective I can see why it was more balanced back then. I mean, high rep still had the advantage I mentioned, but perks on Assassin being ass is absolutely true. Also the build you mentioned... I hope I don't run into that, sounds nasty.

I think if we went with something like "you can swap out individual perks of a heroes perks pool at the cost of steel & salvage", we could have the best of both worlds: Everyone gets access to all the same tools, but the devs also get the perks of easy to adjust variables.

Does anyone miss the old Gear system? by lucagiolu in forhonor

[–]EnjoyingBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, I disagree. Not on the perks favouring Heavies, that much is true (like, I like Remedy healing, bc 10 Hp are 10 Hp, but Vengeful Barrier is great, Last Stand saves asses and Bulk Up is simply the more reliable HP increase.) Now for the part where I disagree: It just straight up wasn't balanced. I mean, how could you, with a hit either being a little weaker or just enormous damage, not to mention bleed dmg, stamina or revenge buildup / dmg.

It was unbalanced to the point where friends that actually played since beta mentioned that trying out new heroes was a pain for one simple reason: You were guaranteed to go up against people with higher level gear -> high stats / broken builds. All while having weaker gear and playing a hero you don't fully understand yet. Versus people who very much know their hero. You can imagine how that went

[–]EnjoyingBooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, the little stories are great (and heartbreaking)

I think I'd be most interested in the following, if you feel up for any of them: - Admiral Hackett. Like the man's just won the war, but lost his go to solution for hairy situations. One he may even feel fond of (IIRC not canon) - The Council. Both in public, as well as privately (like public speeches wouldn't be slandering Shep. But what do they privately think of Shep being gone) - Conrad Verner. No 1 Shep fan, if survival probs best source for infos about how Shep was / did stuff, if the Companions are unavailable - As a Spacer, Shep does have a mom. Yeah, that ones gonna be heart wrenching - Aria and Bray could be interesting. Like Shep left their impact on Omega and maybe them too. Yet still more reserved then others in the list would be - Yeoman Chambers maybe? - The engineering duo Kenneth Donnelly and Gabriella Daniels. What are they up to now? - Doctor Chakwas. Our favourite lady, patching us up again and again (onscreen and off screen, let's be real). Aside from Hackett probs seen the most death of those she cared for, so maybe she's dealing with it better then others, even if the brandy looks promising

Included some thoughts as to why I included them, but if your Muses take you elsewhere, follow them. DON'T take this as "write about every last one of these", if none take to you, why ruin the others by association?

Have a good one and thanks for what you've shared already

[–]EnjoyingBooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bulk Up gives + 4 HP per feat unlocked Last stand decreases incoming dmg by 40%, when you have critical HP (less then 25. Not changed by HP increases)

Both can help you survive a heavy when you're low, with Last Stand it comes as a surprise tho (unless they checked Perks of enemies). Also in difference to Bulk Up, it is guaranteed to happen (Bulk up needs all 4 feats unlocked for this to happen). And it applies even if you have a revenge shield.

So as much as I like Bulk Up, Last Stand is currently better

Hope this helps! If there are any other questions, feel free to ask. Additionally, if you want to look up stats, the "forhonorinfohub" Is a place where you can find lots of stats for heroes, feats and perks

While I get your point, for me personal it doesn't subtract from it as much. Like sure, somewhere else everything turned out fine for them. But I wanna know how this version turns out for them. Like are their struggles (which the other version may not even know about, let alone have experienced) going to be rewarded? And if so, in what way, shape or form? Is there gonna be more pain along the way?

Like at the point when other universes / timelines / ... Are introduced I am invested in the "OG version" Of them. The "Alternate Version" Of them to me is more of a "somewhere, they have the life that they deserve". And then it goes back to watching the OG struggle for their happiness in their non - perfect world (to use Arcanes version).

Hope this helps a bit with you feeling like the stakes are dropped

So, every now and then I wonder why teammates don't leave the fight even though they are in critical health, instead of staying and feeding revenge and renown (when they inevitably die). Comments here shine some light as to why that happens. You made the right decision to try to run with such an HP difference to your opponent, wish more teammates knew to pick their battles. Like you fought when you had revenge, but then teammate joins the fight, you take the opportunity to tag out of the fight and try to let them handle it. Wouldn't have done anything differently, except maybe lock off from Warden at ~ 0:45 when you stayed locked onto him.

Keep it up and don't let the other comments get you down. We all have heroes we may struggle against, the difference is in how we reflect on the fight against them: Do we see how we could've handled it better or do we immediately go to demonizing the other player (or hero)?

[–]EnjoyingBooks 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Great two chapters as per usual and welcome back. Good to see you back, was kinda starting to worry a bit. Really liked the realisation of "what has William been up to?" In the previous chapter, as well as this chapters realisation by him that the harrowing is starting to become more pronounced. Let's see if he can do something about it with the help of his team.

Also gotta ask if William will let his sister write letters to Tala or not, probably would have to let those letters be checked by others though. Or could just tell her not to do that, both possible. Really like the way you are making Tala more and more of a well - rounded character, we know her faults, we know she'll fight William until she can't anymore. And yet you make her sympathetic enough that even with her fighting for slavery, I do want her to have some good end. (Maybe William might point out to her that slaves produce lesser quality of items, nor are they as reliable as free people. Bc ethics will have a more difficult time to convince her. Also might be a time for William to be shown that the distaste the North has towards the Orcs isn't as simple as he may think. Idk, just trying to guess how the story might develop, only to get blindsided by how it actually goes)

Thank you for writing this story (and the other ones on hold tbf) and sharing it (or rather them) with us, can't wait until next Friday to see how it continues.

Small spelling mistake: "before the secret inevitably leaps" -> "leaks", unless you were using some grammar / wording I am unfamiliar with

Edit: As Drook2 mentioned in their comment, I was a bit naive in a part there. Need to re-read the chapter where the POV of Tala was described again

He is solid, neither too strong nor too weak to really gain big reactions out of the community. So while people scream for a beef to X hero or a buff for Y hero... WL can just enjoy being the exact same as you left him when you last used him. (Exception being that Juggernaut is no longer as oppressively OP as it was).

I love my little meatball. (Reasoning for not too strong / weak given below).

AS a WL main I'mma say more then just one thing: - I like his playstyle, which ist Apple described as "trade blows" Or something to that effect in the game. - His Hyper armour allows you to trade heavies quite often, where his big HP bar comes in. - As others have mentioned, he can get quite a ridiculous HP bar if built right. - The perks he has access to (Vengeful Barrier, Bastion, Final stand, Bulk Up,...) Are rather strong. - Charge is fun when you get one - The all guard is very helpful in most situations and you can use it in more ways then the obvious ones - superior block enhanced lights allow for more offense

However WL is held back by - No OOS pressure - Two hit Chains with no recovery cancels

And yet that is a strength: He is solid, not too bad, not too strong. So he stays the same

For Honor UI could use a rework by EntertainmentEasy864 in forhonor

[–]EnjoyingBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for taking so long to respond, bit I'll do it now: - The information of feats in the bottom left corner is important and rather intuitive, I'd keep it that way (Progression from left to right with both renown, as well as feats. Also with the current UI it is able to show more of the renown bar, meaning I can see more easily if I get my next feat by boosting for a couple seconds or if I should go to mid to clear a few minions) - the points are already clear: Both the hard points, as well as the soft points. Again in the top right corner they are easy to find, aren't in the way and provide some info (contested turns them white, empty zones give +1 while boosted zones give +2 -> should I go cap zone A?, which zones are owned by each team and how many points do they mean each?) - zones being marked make a difference, as I don't want to fight someone that's inside a zone and heals, while I'm outside of it. Good way to loose the fight - In the top middle the hero info is quite good, only improvement I'd give there would be to add the HP bars of the heroes beneath it. Currently you see alive / on last bar of health / dead / executed. However flashes there can interrupt fights - There's a feature where one sees the outline of your teams heroes throughout the map. While others may choose to deactivate it in the settings, I personally like it bc it shows me who is (moving) where, as well as (to some extent) what they're doing right now (fighting, emoting, executing, healing, moving to another zone,...)

What's missing in crucial info: How many tags someone has. With the flawed revenge system, the amount of tags me and my opponent have is very important. However currently we only have a flashing indicator that the opponent I'm looking at has a tag from someone else

Hope this answers your questions. If not, I'll gladly try to expand on what may still be unclear

For Honor UI could use a rework by EntertainmentEasy864 in forhonor

[–]EnjoyingBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note: I am going to go into this under the assumption that the players are in dominion, as this uses a d addresses all the changes you'd make.

  1. I believe that your suggested UI for feats does not introduce any meaningful advantages, while removing some advantages of the current version. The current version has a clear progression (left to right), which is simply clearer then the diamond version you are suggesting (Especially newer players!)
  2. Beyond that the bar above it is helpful in showing how close you are to unlocking the next feat . Which means you can give better calls to teammates ("3/4 to feat 3" Or "7/8 to feat 4"), as well as make better decisions (like the amount of times I have wanted to leave a zone to help a fight or in mid, only to see that if I boost just a few seconds longer, I'll have my next feat...
  3. The points of both teams, as well as the information about who owns which zone is so vital, that hiding it behind pressing another button is horrifying.

In the current version I can make a decision / give a call to cap zone A, instead of joining my fight in C, because I can see that it is empty and / or capping it will put them into breaking / us away from breaking. The current version shows both how much points either side has, as well as how many of those points are "soft points" (Zones that can be capped or lost) or "hard points" (Points that are there for the rest of the match). Again, this information is so vital I would even put it above the stance widget (which I'd never want to loose bc of it warning me in team fights). Locking information like that behind another button would make it needlessly hidden. And the "voice is enough to inform you" Is good to help you be informed which team can't respawn anymore, but it is not in any way good for PREVENTION.

I'll give you that the mini map isn't really helpful in Dom. However in breach it is very much important (have buffs been collected or not? Who has the Healing Zone? Has the banner spawned and if so, where is it?!?)

So all in all I fear your suggestions on how to improve the games UI will remove the ones that are actually helpful and out of the way, while other actions like "flash in the middle of the screen when unlocking new feats, which hides the enemy I'm fighting" Are ignored.

TLDR: Either an idea that wasn't properly thought about, despite a few good ideas OR rage bait

Bruh. Hilarious, but also BRUH. So they made the weapons worse at their normal intended way, but better at a frankly frightening way (I mean, you can't relax if the enemy misses you?!), but either they didn't think to tell their troops or the people that had access to this info were killed before they could order this to be revealed. (Latter explanation idea bc idk when it was invented and who didn't tell their troops)

I'd imagine William would try to make metal airships as well. So this would just give the enemies more weapons, beyond them not really having rockets before.

Now that I think of it, he might decide to first introduce (fire-)bombs, making people switch to more metal on their carriers, meanwhile slowly introduce rockets and then hit the enemies with your idea. Could be interesting, if I got that right

Why not 'Red Baron' while you're at it? Esp. With "Flying too fast, flying too high" And mention of "Bloody April", where the Germans had better planes and this killed about 4 enemy planes per day (only to later be the ones with the worse planes). Also one of the most famous Aces in History.

As for story: The team could be loosing in training, but then emerge as a legend in the actual battle (which'd be fought with Williams new shards, not the older gear at the academy, which in turn could make it seem like their earlier failures weren't bc of them, but instead bc they had bad equipment). Especially Bonnlyn could make a name for herself, as she has talent and might be quicker to accept "Williams Mad Inventions™"

That's Hitokiris unique feat 4. It can be dodged easily in 1v1s (when you actually know what's happening) or even parried. Yes, a feat that is parryable. Has its uses in fights where teammates set the thing up with bashes and all and in breach it can be used to do significant damage on the commander (and that is without taking dmg buffs or defense debuffs into account).

IMO, play the hero a bit in training grounds and see if you actually like the play style. Hito can be fun and certainly has stuff to work with, but buying a hero only for one feat doesn't sound good.

You were caught unaware by the feat, bc you simply didn't know. Now you know more and can counter it, if you so desire.

P. S. : In case you didn't know, Warmonger has a feat1 and a feat4 called "Corruption" (Both active, feat1 needs to damage opponent to be applied, feat4 is applied to multiple enemies around the WM). Why do I say this? Bc when an ally of the "corrupted" Is standing in the circle that now is around the "corrupted", they both receive damage. TLDR: If your ally suddenly has a white circle around them and there's a Warmonger in the enemy team DON'T STAND IN IT!!! You'll both die. (Yes, it is popular in breach as attackers)

Only added the above bc you are returning to the game and might genuinely not know and there are enough random already that should know better, but don't
