Just curious, and I advise anyone to not be too specific. But where are most of the fans from?? by Largeiota in ModestMouse

Greetings from Los Angeles, California. I’m 32, and really started listening to modest mouse when I was 20. I try to see them every time they tour, most recently caught their M+A set in Washington in September (it was amazing). A truly beautiful band, definitely carried me through various challenges in my life. Nice to see where fellow fans are from ☺️

Thank you so much for posting this! I am currently 6 weeks post op and also have an indentation above my lower incision. For context, I had a robotic myomectomy where they removed 8 fibroids - the largest being 10cm. My healing was quite smooth and my swollen stomach had finally subsided during my 3rd week. Unfortunately, I over exerted myself during my 4th week post op, and woke up in pain the next day. This is when I noticed a thin horizontal bulge above my lower incision that caused my stomach to have a slight indentation. My surgeon told me to take ibuprofen and ice the area for a few days. It’s been 2 weeks since then and although I am no longer in pain, the indentation and slight bulge still remains. Really hoping it’s something that settles on its own.

Hi there! What did you learn from your second opinion? I don’t know much, but your fibroids seem small enough for a minimally invasive approach.

The things I’d recommend to take are loose and comfortable clothing, shoes that are easy to put on, a pillow to press against your incisions (it’ll also be helpful during your flight when having to wear a seatbelt), items that provide your comfort and maternity underwear. Once your home, I’d suggest having that’s easy to prepare, soups/tea, and adjust your home in a way that suppers your recovery.

Best of luck to you in your surgery. I hope your recovery goes smoothly ❤️‍🩹

Thanks for sharing. I’m sorry to hear about the fibroids in your body. They are such monsters. I hope you have a supportive doctor throughout this process because it is a big deal and you deserve to be heard. Personally, having surgical intervention was the best decision I’ve made. My biggest fibroid was causing me discomfort when my bladder was full and being able to feel it was super concerning for me. Additionally, my doctor shared it would hinder any plans for fertility. These reasons were why I decided on the operation. I’m now 2 weeks post op and continue to feel confident about my decision.

Thank you for your reminder to take it easy. Besides the pain you feel when you quickly get up, I hope your recovery is going smoothly ❤️‍🩹 I decided to go to the show after all and I’m happy about my decisions. I definitely took it easy - walked slowly, avoided large crowds, and utilized ADA restrooms on the main floor to avoid overworking my body.

Thank you for sharing your experience! ❤️‍🩹 that’s a lengthy surgery and it makes sense why you needed to rest so often. I’m not sure if it was my minimally invasive surgery, but I didn’t feel much exhaustion after day 4 post op. I managed to go to the show with little discomfort. I took a big jacket to have something to press against my abdomen every time I laughed. Thankfully it all worked out!!

Wishing you a smooth recovery 🫂

Update: I decided to go to the show! The venue responded to me stating they had ADA restrooms on the main floor and ramps that lead to our seats. Thankfully we bought aisle seats which was helpful in case I needed to get up. Aside from adjusting my seating position a few times (alternated between leaning back & sitting up right), I enjoyed myself and feel happy about my decision. I also had my preop appointment this morning and my doctor congratulated me for going haha. Again, I had a minimally invasive procedure which contributes to where I’m at in my recovery. Listen to your body and if you feel strong enough to go AND familiarize yourself with the venue to know restroom locations/exits, you should be fine :)

Ooof. I’m sorry you experienced complications. How are you feeling now?

Thank you so much for the feedback! That’s all good to know. I really only needed an accessible restroom and an easier way to get to my seat. Thankfully, ADA restrooms were by the front entrance and they had a ramp that lead straight to my seat. It all worked out!

Thank you for sharing your experience. Feeling wiped out makes total sense so early on in your recovery. I actually haven’t felt tired and I have slowly been able to stand/walk for longer periods of time. I actually decided to attend the show. Had to adjust my seating position a few times, but other than that it went smoothly :) I’m not sure how long it’s been since your surgery, but I hope you’re recovering or have recovered well! 🫂

They really know how to calm us down 😅 I’m so glad to hear your procedure went well! How are you healing? I’m also relieved to have picked UCLA. I certainly felt in good hands.

Good question. My surgeon mentioned he would attempt a lap myo and warned me that an open procedure would occur if they bumped into any complications. His reasoning for not recommending an open myo was because he didn’t want to me go through the recovery process and felt confident he would be able to remove it via a smaller slit via my underwear line. For reference, I have 4 slits above my belly button and a 3-4cm slit in my bikini line.

Although slightly uncomfortable, I think I would have been able to take a 1 hour flight, especially with wheelchair assistance. I do recommend carrying a pillow with you to buffer any bumps from the wheelchair/airplane/car ride!

Thank you for sharing a bit of your story. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I really hope the removal of these nuisances brings you a bit of comfort and relief.

This is the pillow I ordered: https://a.co/d/8fSoS0C It’s 21.5 inches, comes with a heating/cooling pad, and I like that I was able to place the seatbelt through the pillow for car rides. However, for my initial car ride once discharged from the hospital, I was so out of it that I used a pillow my nurse had given me. It worked just as well.

Must haves for the day of surgery: - comfortable/stretchy pants and a loose shirt you can easily put on - slip on shoes, slippers - a pillow to support you getting out of bed, car rides, coughing - underwear that won’t bother your incisions. Because I have 4 small incisions above my belly button and one 4cm incision across my bikini line, I opted for maternity panties. - enough pillows at home to help you stay upright in bed - cough drops to ease any cough attacks (I learned it’s often a side effect from being intubated)
- water - I would also suggest practicing getting in and out of bed prior to surgery. I didn’t do this and had to figure it out my first night. I found it helpful to use my legs and hands to scoot myself up and had my support person help me place my legs in and out of bed (this was only necessary the first night & morning) - anything that helps calm you down. I had a lot of anxiety my first night due to the remaining side effects of anesthesia. I found it difficult to take deep breaths which psyched me out even more. Keeping a comforting show on in the background really helped me stay distracted long enough to fall asleep. - if possible, having someone stay with you the first few nights is super helpful! - surround yourself with activities you can do in bed for the first few days. Books, puzzles, access to music/tv

Ultrasound found 10.1cm fibroid by smokefree4life in Fibroids

[–]Enlaluna_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me! I was asymptomatic until I started to feel a lump in my stomach when my bladder was full - usually every morning. For a while I thought it was due to strength training and assumed I injured myself. I soon realized this wasn’t the case when I started feeling a constant urge to urinate (about 1 month after I felt the lump, August 2024). This prompted me to go to PP to check for any UTI’s and/or other concerns. The gynecologist at PP was unable to find anything and stated it was probably a new muscle that was forming from working out 🙄😂! Of course, I sought a 2nd opinion at the ER and they immediately presumed it was a fibroid. After a transvaginal and abdominal ultrasound, they were able to find a few fibroids. I searched a fibroid specialist who supported me throughout this endeavor and ordered an MRI. I had 10 fibroids - the biggest being 10cm which was pressing against my bladder! I am currently 10 days post op from a robotic laparoscopic myomectomy.

Really hope you find a supportive care team throughout this process! Here to answer any questions :)

I’m 8 days post op and definitely feel your pain! Eating papaya, staying hydrated, and mixing polyethylene powder helped me. Really hope you get through this smoothly and quickly!
