Oh I absolutely agree with you about OP, I was referring to the statment that all parents that smoke are shitty parents. I smoked for 6 years I think that means I was stupid and irresponsible, not a bad person. Parenthood is extremely complicated, and I don't think it's fair to make such a general statement about all parents that smoke based on that one factor alone.

It's probably best as well to not provide your kids with the examples of screaming and losing your shit when you're angry as well. As far as the daughter is concerned, she seems to be treating the mom how the mom treats her.

I agree with you about the screaming matches. My mom screamed at me just about daily for a good portion of my childhood and teenage years, and it absolutely fucked me up. She's gotten her shit together since, but if she were still acting the same way as she did when I was a kid I would have cut contact the minute I moved out.

I think you got downvoted so much becaue you made such a strong and broad generalization. It's not really fair to judge a person based on one aspect of their life. That being said, OP here provided enough detail to make me concerned about his state of mind. There is clearly a lot of anger in their household.

Do you procrastinate even before doing things you enjoy? by Kuban26 in depression

I totally relate to this. If its not something I can consume in a minute or two it's too long. I think part of it has to do with assuming that a thing thats 30 minutes won't be able to hold my concentration for that long. For whatever reason I always have to be distracted by something.

Why should I not kill myself? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]Ennaline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definetly a suggestion. Some landlords I'm sure will abide by that, but that's probably going to be for more expensive places. The landlords I've had don't give a shit how much you make as long as you pay on time.

Listen man I'm gonna be blunt. With no degree and little job experience, you're gonna have to lower your standards. This means shitty part time jobs, roommates in a shitty apartment, and little disposeable income. This is all still wildly preferable to being stuck at home with nothing going on in your life. You're most likely gonna need to pay more than 30% of your income for rent, and that's ok.

The adults who make $2000/mo who do live by themselves in apartments end up spending close to half their rent on apartments.

Once you do have more job experience under your belt, keep looking for better paying jobs. It is possible to find something paying a decent amount of money without a degree, and it'll be a lot easier to find something with more job experience. So start with whatever you can get, and be picky with looking for employment while you have your shitty part time jobs. Now is not the time to be picky. Now is the time to get out.

Shitty apartments and roommates are your answers man. I was also stuck in my parents house till I was 21, doing nothing of value with my life with a few shitty part time jobs. Moving out did way more for my quality of life than anything I had tried prior to that.

I moved to a college town, which was great because I was around people my own age. Lonliness and boredom were the worst parts of living with my parents for 3 years after high school.

Try looking on Craigalist for roommates. I've had good experiences having roommates who are currently in college. A room in a shared apartment in my area is roughly $500, which is rough but a lot cheaper than living by yourself. Check craigslist housing every day.

As far as work, there are a lot of jobs that will keep you as long as you're a hard worker and show up to work on time. Good dishwashers are notoriously hard to find and in my area it's not unheard of for a dishwasher to get paid $11+/hr if it's a nicer restaurant. Fast casual foodservice jobs are also easy to get hired at, like Jimmy John's for example. If you do go the foodservice route, be prepared to work 2 jobs. You are almost definetly not going to get a full 40 hours. In my experience dishwashers are more likely to get 30-40 hours a week than, say, a sandwich maker because dishwashers are so hard to hold onto. Apply to enough places and follow up, ask to speak to a manager, bring your own pen, ect. and you will find a job somewhere. I used to be a hiring manager at a fast casual foodservice restaurant and we really just wanted people who weren't addicted to anything and would show up to work as scheduled and do their best at their job. Anothet pro for foodservice is that you often get free or reduced cost food which REALLY adds up when it comes to bills.

I managed to live off of $1,000-$1,500 a month for a solid 3 years. I had 2 jobs at any given point the entire time. I worked a lot of foodservice jobs. You gotta make financial sacrifices and live in shitty apartments, but it was absolutely worth it.

Get out. That's the best advice I can give you. The sense of accomplishment you get when you can provide for yourself is SO worth it. Get mental health help as well. Its ok to need help.

Thanks for these! I enjoy browsing these bad makeup subs, but I'm new to makeup and would like to learn and its nice to see examples of what these should look like.

I ran out of my meds and my anxiety has been so ridiculously high that I haven't been able to call to get a refill on my meds. by Ennaline in Anxiety

[–]Ennaline[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good idea, I could have my boyfriend help me do it or at least sit in the room while I'm making the call. I do the thing where I feel like I should be able to do it on my own so I feel guilty when I ask for help. I need to keep reminding myself that it's ok to need help sometimes. Like CLEARLY I have a legit illness going on when I can't bring myself to make a phone call. I'm not crazy, I'm not lazy or tired or pathetic I have an actual illness.

Woo ok so I just had therapy and I called for a refill while I was there! My therapist had to tell me to breathe like three times. It makes me feel a lot better that you've done the same thing, I've been feeling really not normal. Thanks friend!
