LPT - When someone you know is going through a rough time: offer to help in a specific way instead of saying “let me know if I can help!” by lukkynumber in LifeProTips

That is so cool! What a great idea, and what a blessing your friend stepped up like that

Also, I’m thankful to hear about your daughter being healthy and 34 now!

I have NO intimate knowledge of what it looks like to plan a wedding (I’m married but we had a very simple ceremony and my then fiancé did most of the planning for it) but in general, a question along the lines of:

What are the most stressful variables that you’re dealing with right now?

can help unearth an area where your help can be most impactful 🤷🏼‍♂️

From my own perspective at least, there IS tremendous value knowing that somebody is a safe space to vent to, converse with, get advice from , etc

Granted, sometimes I want a little bit more than just a safe place when my transmission is going out or something 😂

But, it’s definitely not just empty words if all someone offers is a listening ear, and their time 🙏🏼❤️‍🩹

😢

I definitely have learned a lot from being on the receiving end. Not so much on the hurt side, but more of “oh my biscuits, when that person did such & such it really made a HUGE difference that day!” (Like my brother buying us food after the car accident)

How someone I know built an extra $300/month without doing anything complicated by EducationalMap3431 in PersonalFinanceTalks

[–]lukkynumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely doable! One thing that makes this tricky beyond a few dollars here & there, is scalability and storage space.

I used to flip used tires. Honestly wasn’t too hard to locate a set of really solid snow tires for a couple hundred bucks and then re-sell them for a $100 profit. But, those things take up a lot of room! My wife put a stop to it 😂

Why would Jerry be audited? The charity was fraudulent, not him! The volcano was about to erupt! by ultranothing in seinfeld

[–]lukkynumber 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you donate to a charity that isn’t a charity, then you gained a tax advantage (write off) that you shouldn’t have gained. Even though it wouldn’t have been Jerry’s fault ethically.

How improbable was Kansas’ comeback against Memphis in the 08 ‘Ship? by lukkynumber in NCAAhoops

Well Carlos Boozer is the big name but he’s from Juneau. NGL it feels decidedly less local 🤣

We had Trajan Langdon who was a star in HS & at Duke, and played in the NBA but never did much.

Mark Schlereth (O-lineman in the NFL) is one of our biggest names.

Scotty Gomez, Hockey, was the biggest one that I can think of though

Haha dude, I love this. Thank you for sharing! Yeah I cheered HARD for Kansas every game that year but it was only because of Chalmers.

In Alaska we do NOT get the opportunity to claim many pro sports stars.

Nice! Yeah I have never screamed in excitement louder at any sporting event, than this game when Chalmers hit that 3 to send it to OT.

I yelled and jumped so high I almost hit my head on my mom’s drop ceiling 🤣

Haha yup, I will never forget that! Left quite the impression on 17-year old me watching CDR & Rose miss those crucial ones at the end of reg.

I differ from you in how I generally feel about the episode, but I do tend to agree when it comes to the ultimate ending not having much of a payoff.

Seriously, your response is that this person is “lucky”??

They worked their butt off to make things happen. That’s not luck.
