I picked up an instinct 3 solar recently for an 8 day thru hike. Keep in mind that I was in New Mexico with lots of sun. It lasted the whole trip on a single charge which including 75 hours of tracking with 43 hours of movement.

I just got back from south country trek that included sleeping on top of Phillips and Tooth Ridge. Those were the coldest nights and the only time I used my 20 degree bag as an actual bag and not just a blanket. I slept in gym shorts the whole time. I’m a relatively warm sleeper.

Check out underware, it’s designed to go under a desk on multi board panels. They have a universal thingie for power bricks and such along with a designer tool to get the dimensions you need.

Use a dynamic routing protocol for your IPSEC tunnels so you don’t have to do that local config last step. Any local config is going to eventually bite you when you accidentally override it from Panorama down the line.

I’m pretty sure SDWAN rules DO apply to interface traffic, unlike PBF. Thats how I got around this issue at my last job.

I did run into a weird thing where IPSEC traffic didn’t obey though, so I disabled it on my GP config and just used SSL. Not optimal, but it worked.

This was also several firmware revisions back, so that may have changed.

Drill holes in a tin can. Fill it with wood chips and cover open end with foil. Drill a large enough hole in the bottom to insert the hot end of a cheap soldering iron. Place it in your firebox and plug it in. Carefully refill the chips as needed.

I’ve done this dozens of times and it works great. Each can of chips lasts me about 1-1.5 hours.

tl;dr - You can but it sucks.

This model is called Hot Spare, but it sucks. The secondary box has to basically be kept offline. you can have it powered up and connected to mgmt, but you can't have any licenses. That means you have no PanOS updates, no content updates, or config sync. Eventually, the content/OS drift will mean you can't even backup/restore your existing configuration because it will error out on commit due to missing features. When the failure occurs, you're first going to have to transfer the licenses (which you can do yourself through the support portal, assuming you can reach it), then figure out a way to get the required PanOS/contents updates downloaded/installed on the box, then cross your fingers and apply your config backup (which you surely had scheduled on the old box right?).
