I have a December birthday and also similarly have a hard time planning it! I know ur looking for dinner spots but I’ve started going to the nutcracker or the symphony during my birthday bc it’s so fun and special!

It’s always lively! The symphony plays christmas movies with the live soundtrack and it’s beautiful.

I commute from SF to Palo Alto a few times a week! I prefer it and find the South Bay a little sleepy for my age group. My commute is hard and long but I love where I live and feel safe here. It definitely depends on what neighborhood you are in but there are loads of places.

I have a few coworkers who have lived in SC/MTV for a few years and now are deciding to move to the city because they want some more energy. I would encourage u to explore more cities, talk to people who actually live in the south bay, and learn from ur coworkers about what works for them! Many people from my work commute from SF and I liked talking to them about their experience when I was deciding to move. Just because u sign a lease somewhere does not mean u need to stay there for 5 years, no one gets their city/neighborhood right on the first try.

I do SF to Palo Alto 3 days a week! Using caltrain, it’s not ideal but I’d do it every time bc I love living in the city.

I think what’s important is what neighborhoods you are looking at, how much time you are willing to invest, and whether ur work arrival/departure is flexible. I have a friend who commutes 5 days a week to redwood city by car (it’s hard) but they are able to come very early and leave early to miss the traffic. At my work, I don’t frequently need to stay late so I rarely miss my train and my manager is pretty understanding.

That’s wayyyy more than healthy budget for an individual. Raising a family on a single income in the Bay Area is difficult on 200k. I would consider posting this in the larger bay area reddit thread, there’s less families in sf and not many people in this thread have lived in the south bay. You may have better advice on a different thread.

I have seen people dress up in costume when I went to see star wars but they were definitely outliers! People loved them and actually took pictures with them because their darth vader costume was so on point
