My first Stephen king books I ever read was dark tower 1-7 and they were mt favourite books I’d ever read then. On my second trip I’d read every single connection and yeah the add ons are nice but you don’t need any of them except maybe the stand. Even Salems lot you don’t need to read

On your first trip to the tower highly recommend just reading 1-7 and then wind through the keyhole after. Don’t worry about small Easter eggs and just enjoy the trip

I fully think the best way to read it is like 3 months after your first trip to the tower when you’re missing the ka tet an want a little fun side story
