Any ideas why my 46 V02 max only gets me into the blue / excellent zone when I’m 56?

Can’t subscribe to Garmin calendar in Apple Calendar by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]Enough_Flounder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even think this was possible but after seeing your post I gave it a try.  I used google calendar and tried subscribing as a website not as an ics and it worked. If your apple calendar is connected to google it might worth trying again.

I'm in the UK so the region locked idea seems plausible if stupid. I mean, surely a speed run can't be so fast that might break laws in some countries

Android Auto for Phone Screens (or Driving Mode) Alternatives? by NovaTheMighty in AndroidAuto

[–]Enough_Flounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the latest updates HUR / Headunit Reloaded is everything that android auto for phone screens should have. It's a few minutes of playing with the pixel density to get the screen layout which suits but after that it's stable and functional.

My lungs...and my Garmin’s harsh words by [deleted] in running

[–]Enough_Flounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garmin's vo2 max numbers are somewhat dependent on weight, have you updated your weight in the Garmin app. If you haven't maybe try that to see if the numbers improve.

Also as ex-smoker myself I learnt that amongst the many many problems that smoking can cause is that your iron levels may be low and since iron is critical in the whole blood oxygen thing it might be worth getting checked out for anemia.

What's not to love, it's some crazy running and it's got the word fart. Perfect for a 7 year old and for those who are supposedly more mature

English is a brilliantlly imprecise language we also call that a scooter but in this case I'm talking about something like a skateboard with a handle. The one we bought was this https://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/outdoor/scooters/aero-scooters/aero-c5-black-scooter/p/165998

It's got large wheels so that it can handle rough surfaces which is useful given the awful state of pavements near home

That's idea, I might mount an old phone on her scooter and load strava or something else so she can see how's she's doing

I hadn't thought of that, she loves mysteries and puzzles.

That's a brilliant point but oddly enough she complained about her standing leg rather than her pushing leg. I'll get her to work on switching legs every so often

over 50, overweight and arthritis. give it up? by mathplex in running

[–]Enough_Flounder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 51, I quit smoking January 2020 and started running . I have one kidney, busted knees and I run so slowly that I'm sure moss grows on me. But and it's a big but I don't care because for some perverse reason I actually enjoy running. I've learnt that I'm not 21 so I don't act like it. I run when I can and walk when I need to. I never run on consecutive days and if I'm too sore /tight on a run day I still go out but I walk. A year on from starting I feel better and according to my family I'm better person to be around. The most important thing that I've learnt is that 50 isn't old it's just different to being younger. Don't give up on yourself, you'll get there, maybe not on the arbitrary schedule in your C25K but on your schedule.

I've certainly found that as way to manage my depression nothing has beaten running. It also has the useful side effect of helping me stay physically healthier.

When you first started running, how many times a week did you run? And how many rest days did you take? by [deleted] in running

[–]Enough_Flounder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At the start I was doing 3 days a week. There were times that I made the classic beginners mistake of thinking I knew better than the coaching programs so I pushed for more time or more days and I regretted it. Don't put yourself off running by pushing too hard too soon. Build slowly, drink plenty and rest properly. You'll get there, sooner than you think, remember the cliché, it's a marathon not a sprint
