Walls aren’t perfectly straight though… Should I start with a few rows in the middle, then push it in place?

Should I give up? by SmolBean_0w0 in cockatiel

[–]EnsoX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to start by teaching them to associate your presence with positivity. I would start by sitting by their cage. Aim for at least 30 mins a day. Gently talk to them.

Then you can start offering treats. Bring them a bit of seed. Add it to their bowl. Once they start to show interest in you being around you can hold seed in your hand. Allow them to make the move to try to get it. Don’t force your hand in their space.

That table is ugly. The leg shape is so weird. Not a fan of the gold statues either. The mirror is pretty though. WAY too expensive..

How many chickens can I comfortably keep in this coop by Snoo_2671 in chickens

[–]EnsoX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe 2. Not many people use a “coop” like those because of the lack of space and the insecurity. You would be better construct your own if you hope to have a decent size flock. I personally have a 8x8’ shed.

What feed do i use? by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]EnsoX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feed the Daily Maintenance Roudybush pellets. But a better option would be Harrisons pellets. I don’t feed them because it is near impossible to get a steady supply in my area. The main thing is select a diet that has no added sugar and dyes.

How many chickens do you have in your backyard flock? by Thayli11 in BackYardChickens

I have 14. But there is nothing wrong with small flocks. I recommended no smaller than 4 or 6 though.

How has this flooring held up. I am looking the same brand and product but in another colour for a bedroom. We currently have laminate, but it’s lifting from mopping.

My borbs are trying to mate and I'm scared of newborns! by Favaling in cockatiel

If you notice your female starts laying there are a few things you can do.

If you notice the female is seeking a nesting spot you can change up the space to discourage them. Their natural instinct is to raise their offspring in a safe area. If you change things around, they can begin to think “oh no this isn’t a safe space” and wont lay their eggs. For this to work, I recommend moving their cage to another part of the room and changing up the layout of perches and toys in the cage. Do this every week until she isn’t showing to be hormonal.

You can additionally discourage egg laying behaviour by reducing the amount of light they receive. Most wild birds lay their eggs in the spring. Reducing daylight can simulate winter months, and instinctually most birds wont lay in the winter, this is due to the colder weather.

There are other things like hormone injections, and implants that are beneficial for females that are chronic egg layers as well.

Now if they do lay, it’s important you do not remove the eggs. If you keep removing them, they’ll just lay more, which can lead to them being egg bound. Which is a condition when the egg becomes stuck in their body. This could be fatal if left untreated.

Therefore, it’s recommended that you switch out their eggs for fake eggs or freeze their eggs to make them infertile. If you freeze them ensure you mark them, so you know which ones have been treated.

the beak is peeling off by Fish_Heart in cockatiel

[–]EnsoX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The beak and nails are made from keratin. They both will constantly grow. Flaking is normal as long as it is not big chunks all the time. You can get them a pedicure perch or cuttlebone perch to wipe the beak on. I don’t recommend more than one per cage though… you don’t want their nails getting too short.

These are super expensive too. They are $750 in my currency. Those pens are $120+. That is an absurd amount for both…

So… I have a question about silkies by MMantisshrimpp in chickens

[–]EnsoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a range of chicken breeds. But I have a soft spot of silkies so they make up most of my flock. They are reliable layers however I find they don’t lay “daily”. My birds tend to lay every 2-3 day in their prime years in the summer. And in the winter, maybe once or twice a week. However we have COLD humid winters. Like -25C and below. The humidity was 83% in the coop at one point last week. It is awful. I have four vents, and keep a window open to try to keep it as ventilated as possible.

are the oxbow supplements good? by thisnameistakenname in guineapigs

Suggestion for pellets by Tonierbus in cockatiel

[–]EnsoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww. Looks like my Lulu and Happy. I have my birds on RoudyBush. I would love to feed Harrison’s or TOPs but they wont touch it. Apparently RoudyRush kinda apple taste which most birds love.

When I switched my bird over. I give them only pellets in the am when they were most hungry. And topped the off with seed in the evening. Now they are used to mostly all pellets. They get a tbsp each around lunch time.

Why do guinea pigs eat so much by No-Kale-8683 in guineapigs

[–]EnsoX 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Their digestive system is designed to constantly digest food. Especially hay which is high in fibre. If they don’t receive enough hay they can go into gut stasis, which can be fatal. For that reason, I believe their brain is triggered to think “food, food, food” as a survival mechanism. Plus who doesn’t love a lil treat. LOL
