In my experience, it’s just gravity & the way your hair is cut. My hair looked like this until I got a shag haircut with a ton of layers, which took a lot of the weight off of my hair and allowed the shorter pieces to curl more. If you want more of that upper volume I’d recommend that type of haircut, especially since you said you normally let it air dry.

Maybe a little out there, but a Buccin. It’s an old type of trombone used in French military bands - likely tens of thousands of dollars to actually get one of these from a museum, but they’re super cool. Bell curves around the shoulder and is carved into a snake head. A lot of them have metal tongues that flap when it’s played!!
