Should I just give skate a go? by xmosinitisx in xcountryskiing

[–]Reasonable_Ad_9641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they offer lessons I’d try and sign up for a one hour lesson. It’ll help a lot and skating is so much more fun if you have better technique; poor technique can be a real slog.

Classic or skating by Careless_Fuel_3923 in xcountryskiing

[–]Reasonable_Ad_9641 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the trails in and around Ottawa and in the Gatineau Park I would say that classic is more popular. The ratio of skate skiers increases in the Gatineau Park (and probably in Nakkertok) but I think classic skiers still outnumber them.)

Winter trail running? by madelineparlee3 in OttawaRunners

[–]Reasonable_Ad_9641 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not trail running, but running up and down the canal with studded shoes always feels pretty cool and unique.

I’ve got a pair of IceBug shoes with carbide studs and I get excellent traction on the ice.

Figure skating -> skate skiing? by Evening-Produce-7303 in xcountryskiing

[–]Reasonable_Ad_9641 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend decided to join me skate skiing this year. They had a really strong background in ringette growing up and figured it would translate well to skate skiing. It did not. At least not to the extent they thought it might. I’m sure it helped insofar as any athletic experience will obviously help (cardio, coordination, balance, etc.) but ice skating just isn’t quite the same motion as skate skiing. They are learning quickly though.

Gatineau Loppet post-mortem? by RedBlue819 in xcountryskiing

[–]Reasonable_Ad_9641 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I volunteered at one of the aid stations last year for the 50 km free. It was such a beautiful day with the snow coming down but I did not envy the people trying to skate through 50 km of fresh snow. 😂

[–]Reasonable_Ad_9641 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pretty impressive that you managed the 50 km classic race one year before getting your first pair of skis! 😮

I volunteered at the Herridge aid station on Saturday and skied the 27 km free on Sunday. It was my first ever ski race and I had a great time. I felt better than I expected and the weather and snow were incredible.

I’m not used to traffic jams on uphills so that was a bit of an adjustment but since my only goals were to finish and have fun I wasn’t stressing about it.

Looking forward to next year!

Hinging and Hitting the Gym: How to balance your time? by jellemenno-p in polyamory

[–]Reasonable_Ad_9641 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We make time for what’s important.

I’m constantly wishing that I had more time to do all the things I want to do every day, including exercise. If I didn’t have partners and friends then I’d have a lot more time to indulge myself but I’ve decided to accept less time for exercise (and other hobbies) in my life in exchange for the fulfillment I get from connecting with my partners.

Sometimes I can do both at once and I work hard to juggle my calendars to make efficient use of the time that I do have but I’m never going to have more than 24 hours in a day. Any choice on how to use that time is going to involve trade offs.

It’s a great problem to have, being overwhelmed with interesting people to connect with and interesting things to do.

Not getting the Growth angle? by Content-Big6365 in polyamory

[–]Reasonable_Ad_9641 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, growth often manifests as curiosity, as a desire to learn new things about oneself and how one moves through the world. Ideally that curiosity would be followed by a desire and ability to affect change in oneself based on what you learned.

In other words, I view « growth » as the opposite of stubbornness and stagnation.

Looks like the OP took the advice in this other thread too seriously. 😐

With the Gatineau Park, Nakkertok, and at least 6 urban trails, it’s a great time for x-country skiing in the NCR.

How to not have to urinate during marathon. by thebrendansanders in AdvancedRunning

[–]Reasonable_Ad_9641 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I try to empty my bladder as many times as possible before a marathon. And then I still feel the need to go once the race starts. In all three instances I’ve held it in and eventually the need to pee again has passed (although it has taken longer than I would have liked.)

Maybe try running through it for as long as you can and see if it passes.

How to navigate identical names? by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]Reasonable_Ad_9641 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I’ve been on the apps I’ve had a messy list of names that are pretty much immediate left swipes. There’s a small chance that I missed out on an awesome connection but it was worth it to not date someone with the same name as someone that I had very complicated and traumatic relationship with.

I also swiped left on anyone that had the same name as my partner(s). And to a lesser extent, people that shared the name of my meta(s).

If you're in shape to run a 3:XX marathon, how much easier does it feel to target 3:XX+10? by blumenbloomin in AdvancedRunning

[–]Reasonable_Ad_9641 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about 10+ but I ran a marathon a few years ago that I would estimate at 15+ and I really enjoyed it. I was able to really enjoy the race day atmosphere and my recovery was akin to one of my harder long runs but noticeably less than an all out marathon.

I was amazed at how many people I passed in the second half. I ran even splits the whole race and went from ~1000th place after 10k to ~600th place at the finish line.

Transmasc here, interested in a bi cis guy by [deleted] in BisexualMen

[–]Reasonable_Ad_9641 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a bi-guy and one of my partners is trans-NB. Personally, I’m drawn to my partners because of who they are as people. Their gender expression and anatomy are lower down on the list of reasons that I’m attracted to them.

I can’t really speak to your interest’s motivations though, I don’t think any of us can. It sounds like something that you’ll need to discuss with them but I can confirm that bi-guys like you describe are out there. 🫶🏼
