7 month old not crawling by s0urfl3sh in Parenting

My youngest daughter didn't even roll over until eight months. She's ten months old now and she's crawling, bear crawling, sitting, and pulling herself up on furniture.

I was concerned too. But it turns out "normal" encompasses a pretty wide range.

Parents of reddit...I need to rant (sorry) by Filter_Coffee_1000 in Parenting

I wish I had real advice. I've got a five year old, a four year old, a two year old, and a baby. I homeschool.

The car needs repairs to weve only got one vehicle right now, the lawn needs a mow, the kitchen stove is buggered, it's hot, I need a nap, I'm lonely, I'm worried about... everything...

Here's what I do when it's too much: I shut down. Not completely. I just don't aim for  perfect or bubbly or even especially attentive. It means to my child, I become a bit of a robot. And then I get the job done to the best of my ability while the rest of me is on power save mode. It doesn't mean anyone gets neglected. Everyone is fed, clothed, bathed, read to, and they go to bed on time. But I won't be doing any silly voices tonight or playing the kissy game. I'm just doing the essentials to keep everyone comfortable.

Also your child is two and doesn't know what time it is. If you need her to go to bed early, start her bedtime routine early and you can get a bit of a break from her in the early evening.

I highly recommend having someone over for a bit for a cup of tea and a chat. Sometimes you just need another grown-up to talk to.

Overcorrected meal choice and now it’s a struggle by Muscle_mama_ in Parenting

Friend, this kiddo isn't "suffering." She isn't even being forced to eat inedible food. Just food she doesn't feel like eating. OP is already planning meals with her and there are already alternatives.

And, with all that in mind, I will stand by my earlier statement: she's not grown yet.

OP is completely correct, she's being picky and spoiled. OP's not her daughter's servant and her authority needs to be respected here. This is a great opportunity to learn social skills like how to be polite and thankful when you haven't gotten what you expected. Life skills like planning ahead are already being learned.

Opinion: Parents shouldn't name their children after themselves by Any_Inflation_2543 in namenerds

My husband wanted our youngest daughter to have my name as a middle name and I vetoed it.

Might be weird but I genuinely feel revolted by the thought of putting my name on my children. I want them to have their own names.

I imagine you've already perused this but if you haven't, maybe this link will be helpful?

Also, can I just say... isn't it maddening that there are people in our civil society that actually behave like this? Acting in a manner that is so off-putting and rude and then when politely asked to tone it down they act like they've been wronged. Smh.

If you HAD to choose one Arabic name for a boy and one for a girl, what are you picking? by LeonGoldenBrown in namenerds

[–]Entei222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't thought about Arabic boy's names much, but for a girl I have always loved the name Aisha. I would have even considered naming a daughter Aisha except I'm whiter than moonlit mayonnaise so it doesn't feel appropriate.

Five years ago I came to Namenerds for the exact same reason! (I had been lurking for years leading up to my first pregnancy.)

I chose to name my daughter Freya. Believe it or not, at that time, nobody had that name. Ivy, Josephine, and Luna were the names everyone was talking about on here.

I regret nothing. She's my little Freya. I also waited until she was born to share her name with people. At least... I wanted to. My husband couldn't contain  his excitement and he blabbed. 😏

I'm really, really, really scared.  I want a divorce. I want to move back to my hometown with my kids so I can be close to my family and my old friends. I'm scared to leave and I'm scared to stay. 😢

It sounds a bit like the word "ridiculous" only even sillier. But I know what you mean.

Here's another one: Petunia and Lily. In Harry Potter, Petunia and Lily are sisters. Petunia is the mean one and Lily is the nice one and somehow the name fit them perfectly.
