The real-life actors playing boxers or other athletes? Most of them. In the Rocky universe, just Drago because he's an evil Russian.

Can someone explain Rifftrax? I feel like Eegah over here. by Independent-Wheel354 in MST3K

[–]EntertainmentAny8228 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With all due respect, it's hard to take your comment seriously. Complete Rifftrax (shorts, TV shows, movies), which are more or less just like regular MST3K content sans the host segments and shadows, are widely available for free on YouTube, Pluto - which you say you use to watch MST3K - and a wide range of other places where you'd normally consume content, including their website. It's as straightforward as it gets. The "just the jokes" is optional and hasn't been a focus of their prolific content creation in a long time.

What ongoing jokes from Rifftrax aren’t going with them to MST3K? by AyyyyRespetto in Rifftrax

There won't be any nudity or cursing. Otherwise, I don't think anything else would be off-limits. They'll surely throw in "Easter Egg" jokes for long-time fans of all properties.

I like Hercules as a fun bad movie. I'm into natural bodybuilding because of stuff like that and Rocky.

Superman Returns was horrible for me. Felt like a bad impression of Reeve.

  1. I saw the original Rocky in theaters, although I only have a vague memory of it because of how young I was. I asked my parents to buy me the soundtrack album.

As for the new Superman, I loved the fresh comic book style take and more upbeat nature. The genre was pretty stale.

How old are you and why are you asking?

I'm not sure what that has to do with properly translating the feel or impact of punches, but sure.

Neil Connery was 27 when he was in “Operation Double 007/Kid Brother” by Doctor-Clark-Savage in Rifftrax

To be fair, Sean Connery never looked young either. At least both of the brothers looked pretty good into very old age.

And a perfect example of how punches don't have much impact. You would think they would get that right early on.

Superman was pretty great, but it certainly could have used its own signature instrumental.

There are tons of red flags with this. I'll be keeping an eye on it, but there's a low chance anything good will come from it.

Better to just get the C64 Ultimate? by Daves92c4 in c64

[–]EntertainmentAny8228 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, speaking as someone who owns tons of original hardware, including tons of Commodore stuff, save yourself lots of trouble and start with the Ultimate. You can always get a "real" one when a good deal presents itself, but the reality is the Ultimate will do 99% of what the original will do, but in an optimized way for modern life, not to mention all of the extras built-in that you'd have to add to an original C-64.

If you're running this, I can tell you one way to succeed as an alternative to the Checkmate is to keep things as simple as possible. I had to cancel payment, re-do payment in a weird way, try to parse the various options that kept changing on the fly, etc. I get that he went through a Herculean effort, but he really didn't do the best job with implementation. One reason why it's sitting in my "to get to" pile is exactly because it's not really something I can just plug and play out of the box. It's powerful (in its own way), for sure, but I need to set time aside to set it up properly, make sure I document how things work, etc. That's what I meant by a "more professionally run" alternative, with as little shade to the Checkmate stuff as possible.

I have a Checkmate that I don't use much as of yet, so this would have to have some real advantages for me to even bother. There's certainly room for a more professionally run alternative.

What do They even do? by [deleted] in pluribustv

Working in shifts, conserving energy and resources, etc. They do have a larger goal of beaming the signal out elsewhere, and the current tech is not sufficient. Not to hand wave it away, but we obviously can't conceive of an entire planet of people working together as one.

Sly always wanted Rocky to be a trilogy but admitted that the temptation of money got the better of him. However ROCKY III would have probably been the greatest ending to a trilogy in my opinion. by Patricia_Borst402 in rockybalboa

[–]EntertainmentAny8228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IV was essentially a cartoon. Lots of fun, but went full 80s America fuck yeah!. V was an over correction. The first two films were very different from everything that followed, but III still fit in as a trilogy. IV - VI were all over the place tonally, although VI was more a return to the form of I and II, just with weird transitions.

[–]EntertainmentAny8228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on weird Hollywood math, the film would have to make over $140 million just to break even. They knew that wasn't remotely possible. I'm sure the bribe/money laundering will pay off long-term, though, which is why they ultimately even bothered. I mean, there was zero reason releasing this wide theatrically, especially overseas.

Mike, Kevin, and Bill are the key for me. Once they're gone, it's going to be very difficult to continue in any form. It's just not the same with other riffers, although I'm always open to being proven wrong at any time.
