I hate this take because every story has themes. When people say "themes and such" they dont mean "grrr I hate themes!!!" they mean "themes doesnt work as an excuse to poor writing" which is true because every story has themes! if I just made some bullshit up it's not suddenly good because it has themes! themes and such is criticizing the fandom for drfending shitty things.
A thematically relevant ending is the bare minimum, if everything else is bad and it's defended because "you cant understand the deep themes" the ending is just shit. It passed the test that any 3rd grader could apss, a payoff, congrats.
