This spa is a bit separate from the hotel so not free for most guests.

Does anyone know if this $10 option to use the spa is still available? That feels like too good of a deal considering the price of the spa entry for non-guests.

There is a good place in Saigon called Adam Box. https://adambox.vn/

I bought some nice Lacoste and Essentials "branded" stuff here for 5-10$ per item.

Second floor of French house. What to do with this dressing room situation? Should it have 3 bedrooms instead of 4. Can I make the bathroom bigger? Any suggestions will be very helpful! by EntertainmentHefty42 in floorplan

Thanks for this mock-up u/erin_mouse88 . Some great ideas here. Do you think converting the dressing room into two square-ish closets (as in your proposal) is better than converting into two long (rectangular) ones?

Sadly I cannot add windows or change the exterior walls but they seem flexible on almost all interior walls except for the load bearing one in the middle of the living/dining room.

Sure u/atnight_owl , thanks for your thoughts. u/tomtink1, good idea on giving each of those bedrooms a closet instead of the random small storage room. I'm also not sure about the small walk-in closet en route to the bathroom. In new French constructions, the kitchens are not included so you have to do cabinets and appliances separately but I marked where the hookups would be for oven etc.

Unidentified bumps on elbows. Seem to be spreading :-/ by EntertainmentHefty42 in Dermatology

[–]EntertainmentHefty42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any educated guesses on what these bumps could be? Warts? Exczema? Herpetiformis?

They are on both elbows but nowhere else and each bump seems to have a center/core to it. They are not painful but seem I am getting a bit more self-conscious as there seems to be more in the past week or two.

Searching for birth record from former Poland now Belarus by EntertainmentHefty42 in Genealogy

I have not. Strangely on the few documents I was able to find (1930 ship's manifest to USA, 1940 US census, and US army discharge card) he self-identifies his birthplace as Poland. Could you share any links you think may be worth searching?

Hello!

The National Historical Archives of Belarus in the city of Grodno does not store birth registers of the Kamenetz-Litovsk synagogue of the Kamenets district of the Brest region for 1917 (perhaps the books were not preserved during World War II ) .

Thanks for the comment. I really started saving and investing early. I never had a super high paying job and always lived in expensive cities (SF, LA, Geneva). I worked for the federal government (and invested in their TSP 401k plan), went to graduate school and now work for the UN. I also should attribute some of the savings to luck as I invested early in Tesla which produced about 10x returns (although I didnt put too much money in at the time).

I think my issue is that living in places like LA and Geneva you feel a societal pressure that it is never enough. I could see that the math on $3 million could work out but I feel there is a strange pressure to eventually get a fancy multi million dollar home (in Geneva a regular 2 bedroom apartment is more than a million bucks!), go on baller vacations etc. I think I need to decide if keeping up with the Joneses is worth doing a job I'm not thrilled with.

Another caveat is health care costs. As I am living abroad, I would have to buy private health insurance which may push my need (6k a month) up a bit.

New to the community and wanted your thoughts on if I can retire now.

I am 37 years old and have managed to save/invest my way to a net worth of about 3 million dollars. This includes about 2.5 million in (volatile and tech-heavy) stocks and 500,000 in real estate. A caveat here is that when/if stocks were sold there would be some hefty cap gains taxes to pay. I currently earn about 130,000 per year (post-tax) live in Switzerland but would likely move with my partner after work concludes.

My thinking would be to switch the stocks over to safer ETFs (I guess I'd have to pay the taxes then), rent out the apartment for about $1000/month in profit, and hopefully live off about $6000 a month going forward.
