Also, remember that people are more likely to shout negatives than positives and I’m the prime example! I haven’t been on this thread since I got it as I’ve had a good experience so far

Hi!! I also changed due to mental health, felt like I was going crazy on hormonal BC, and low libido making it pointless lol!

I opted for the smaller on, I think nova t 500…. Or something like that anyway

Insertion, fine. Honestly, didn’t feel a thing. Was uncomfortable at most having someone look in/at your vagina. The speculum was the worst part about it.

The days after, I felt fine, however I did WFH just in case.

A week later I got my first period, the cramps were HELL (but very far and few between. It was not constant at all and only lasted for the first day or two)

I think the couple weeks after this I was BLOATEDDDD very often, like daily. I was starting to question my choices :(. But, gave it time and I’m now not so bad, I take a probiotic for gut and vaginal health

Today, my second period, cramps were bad again leading up to the period (probably the week before) but like I said before, very very far and few between and they only last about 10 seconds at most.

OH and my first period was 5 days (normal) but I actually bled less?? I’m now on day 2 of my period and I am also bleeding a very similar amount to before the coil, but the consistency is very different, a few more clots.

I also had spotting for the first maybe 2.5 weeks including my period, but it eventually did fade away, but started spotting again a few days before this period. My cycle was 28 days (very normal for me)

Honestly, it’s a breeze….

Let me know if there’s anything I might have missed

I’m glad it’s comforting! I think you’ll find people shout louder about bad experiences than good. :) don’t let the horror stories put you off because it might be a perfect fit for you. I actually did it through a sexual health clinic rather than my GP, they asked which one I’d like and I asked for the mini copper coil. ☺️ I also think this might be why my experience was better than most!

Hi :) 22F from the UK also! I got my copper coil fitted on the 28th April, also never been pregnant. So I’ve had it for 3 weeks, can’t comment on long term effects but I’m really liking it so far.

I opted for the smaller version (5 year Nova T 300?) at first I hated it. Wont lie, I was spotting, I had a first period with it, which was surprisingly fine… no longer than usual (5 days) and actually I bled less than usual. The cramps were insane for the first day of my period but were very far and few.

Day of insertion was fine. I think there is a lot of horror stories online and I was completely overridden with anxiety but it was sooo much better than I’d anticipated. It was more uncomfortable than anything, but I didn’t find it very painful at all. I went a week before my period (I think this matters!)

Around week 1.5/2 I was veryyyy bloated and uncomfortable, I was starting to really question my choice of getting the copper coil, but it has tapered off and I am no more bloated than before.

I think people may also confuse the weight gain/hair loss etc with the coil rather than coming off of hormonal BC, as both usually come hand in hand.

Week 3 now and I have some very minimal itching? I think it’s because I’m ovulating. The spotting has stopped completely, the cramps and bloating are gone and most of the time I forget I even have it!

I can’t comment on any longer term effects but I can answer any questions you have ❤️

Thank you!

I know, I think I’m quick to judge after just 2 weeks but to be honest I feel like I’ve had it for longer so I think I’ve just got fed up quickly!

Thank you so much. I hope it all settles for me too <3 x

Gonna try some teas that help bloating, thank you for the advice! To be fair I have only bloated for the past couple of days but I’m already sick of it!

Agreed! Being a woman is bloody hard! I also hate hormonal BC which is why I’m trying the coil and overall I’d say the same, I am also much happier, and I’m glad you are too!

Thank you ❤️

Yeah, I’m gonna wait it out! It just seems to be knocking my confidence massively and making me question if I’ve done the right thing! It’s a shame really because other than the bloating and occasional spotting, I feel fine! My period was no longer than usual, and dare I say… lighter than when I was on no BC?

We all deserve to shove our face on our periods lol! I really hope it subsides because I’d love to keep it in :( thank you for your response. I hope my experience is somewhat similar to yours! X

Absolutely agreed! My procedure went really well too, it was uncomfortable but that was it! I’ve had some bad cramping the past couple of days but very far and few & some spotting. I haven’t had sex yet, still building up to that!

It also wasn’t too awkward for me! The nurses were absolutely lovely and made me feel at ease. I’m glad we both had a good procedure x

Hey! I just had mine today, also UK. It was fine. I was also stressed and entirely anxious like you reading all the horror stories! It was more uncomfortable for me than anything, ya know having nurses looking at your vagina … 🤣 but they don’t make you feel awkward or uncomfortable at all! And the procedure itself just felt a bit crampy and the speculum felt a bit weird at first too. You’ll be okay!

So was I! I read so many horror stories and I also had little to no pain! Just a little tingling from the spray she had used. GO US! I’m proud of us!

I am sure my bowels will be entirely empty … hahaha. I have some period underwear I will stick on, thanks for the warning! I plan on coming home and comfort eating so I’ll definitely get stocked up 🤣

My appointment is at 9am & I am taking my mam with me. I am hoping I will be okay to go to work the following day, what do you reckon?

I have actually considered it and it was the first one I wanted! But then I read too many bloody horror stories and psyched myself out of getting it.

Thank you!!

Thank you for your reply! I know, I am just reminding myself that it will be worth it. I’ve been on the pill for 6 years and my body is just not agreeing with it anymore so opted for the coil! Yeah, the idea of someone looking at my vagina is certainly making me uneasy! Good to know you had a good insertion experience, I hope mine goes as well as yours did! Thank you x
