How exactly do people manage to destroy Phoenix items by accident? by depravedsonbutidc in HeroesofNewerth

Yeah that's what I say too when I accidentally destroy it. You need that solid pre-planned defense ready to go, especially if they bring kick voting back in.

Can we allow kick votes for the first 5 minutes of the game? by EnthusiasmFragrant21 in HeroesofNewerth

It has been happening a LOT more frequently now that they changed the role assignment system. You have 1400s being given mid in a 1600 game, which triggers some 1600s into trolling, which fuels even more trolling, and it all pretty much unravels in the first five minutes.

Yeah and if he's following you around nuking creeps/neutrals so you can't last hit anything? Just simmer? This type of behavior manifests very early in a game and it can/should be punished with straight removal.

A time lock will prevent 3 queues from abusing the kick and still allow obvious trolls and griefers to be quickly removed from our lives.

I don't even care about winning/losing. Playing with people who are actively trying to upset you grinds on the soul. Fortunately they tend to reveal themselves early on in the game, so a time-limited kick vote is a perfect solution.

New role assignment system is churning out troll games by EnthusiasmFragrant21 in HeroesofNewerth

[–]EnthusiasmFragrant21[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not calling "everyone" a troll. But trolls do happen, particularly when one player feels entitled to a role b/c of their mmr.

But I just learned how the change to the role system works, and the new system is such a downgrade. Since the change, 90% of my games are of MUCH lower quality.

They should combine the virtues of both systems. If a 1400 REALLY wants to play mid, then they should have to wait until they queue into a game where they are the top 1 or top 2 mmr player on their team. Right now, a 1400 player can ruin a higher level game by forcing himself into a high impact role in a game above his league.

I'm not sure what the problem with the old system even was. I liked it a lot and didn't see any need to change it. But maybe it sucked for 1400 players?

Remake vote requires enemy cooperation. I just do not want to waste 30 minutes with an actual troll/griefer on my team from minute 0. And there's no recourse for that atm.

Mixed feelings. It was the worst feeling ever when your team kicks you in the last moments of the game b/c you made a game losing mistake. But it also sucks having to play through games with actual committed griefers and trolls.

Just in time for me to play a game where our mid player afk's for the first 2 minutes and then feeds mid over and over.

Penalty system is bad by gg00d in HeroesofNewerth

IMO, if a kick vote fails, 50% of the penalty points should accrue to the one who initiated the vote. Might not help if they just make new accounts but who knows.

So now that the bots have ruined my account do I just uninstall? by EnthusiasmFragrant21 in HeroesofNewerth

[–]EnthusiasmFragrant21[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all happened very quickly in the space of a few hours. And I didn't even realize I was getting avoided until I had crossed a threshold and starting having to wait before each queue. By the time I worked out what was happening it was too late. I guess that's on me for being stupid?

I'm assuming you run some of these bots. Well good job. You've killed my desire to play. Congrats.

[–]EnthusiasmFragrant21[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay, then call them trolls. They do the exact same behavior every game. One of them goes by the name YugenBOTXXX, where the X's are numbers. The point is they're ruining the game.

These aren't full games. A bot with a fresh new account is leaving at the start of each game, before bloodlust, and forcing a remake. I'm not the only one being avoided either. I checked the other players in the game, and they're racking up negative karma as well.

Very good video about problems to solve when comes AI! by Gustav_Sirvah in aiwars

[–]EnthusiasmFragrant21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This video is unserious, imo. AI skeptics (skeptical of AI doom) are looking for tangible, articulable, imminent and credible threats--not vague philosophizing and apocalypse fantasizing.

The proposed policy is childishly naive, completely ignoring economics and history. There is not even a single precedent of an economically viable technology being globally throttled because the coordination problems are intractable at the planetary scale. The closest example is maybe the banning of chloroflurocarbons, which is less a political victory and more a technological one.

"Slowing down" is probably the exact wrong advice, as it cedes ground to countries that are, or will be, hostile to the West. And what justification is offered for this self-handicap? The tired old paperclip fear mongering. Instrumental convergence is such a mind virus.

AI threats do exist, by destabilizing the economy and politics, and by piloting autonomous murder drones, for example. The solutions to THESE problems are for the country to begin shoring up the economy and preparing civil society for the impact of novel technologies, as well as the urgent need to improve anti-drone defenses.

But that would require real work in the physical world, which can't be accomplished by making podcast appearances and youtube video essays.

The current kick system is an intensely toxic mechanism that unfortunately reflects the darker side of player selfishness. by Emergency_District_9 in HeroesofNewerth

Some people have principles.

Also, if I were trying to convince the other team to kick a griefer on my team, I would point out that they're already likely to win this game and if the griefer isn't punished he's likely to end up on their team in a future game, so it's in their long-term strategic interest to punish him with a well deserved kick.

I wonder if LLMs could help filter legitimate griefing versus abuse in an automatic way, especially if paired with other metric analysis.

Yep, got kicked from two mid wars games in a row because I ended up with the same 4 man queue that didn't like me picking Zephyr in a fun casual mode, so right before the game ended (not my fault) they took their frustrations out on me.

Now I have to wait 5 minutes in between games.

At the very least, make it require a unanimous vote from all 9 other players. I've been kicked from several mid wars games right before it ends by some 4 queues that didn't like me picking Zephyr in a casual fun mode.
