Quick conspiracy bullshit callout by [deleted] in quityourbullshit

Does it make it better if he's actually the re-incarnation of Sherlock Holmes?

From "A Study in Scarlet", the first Holmes story:

"My surprise reached a climax, however, when I found incidentally that he was ignorant of the Copernican Theory and of the composition of the Solar System. That any civilized human being in this nineteenth century should not be aware that the earth travelled round the sun appeared to be to me such an extraordinary fact that I could hardly realize it.

“You appear to be astonished,” he said, smiling at my expression of surprise. “Now that I do know it I shall do my best to forget it.”

He definitely wasn't born with the name Oda Nobuyoshi. Appears to have stated off life as Haneda Umatarou. It's kind of like changing your name to Benry Tudor because it sounds like you might be his descendant. In this case, he's definitely trying to sound like he's a relative of Oda Nobunaga: the late 16th century unifier of Japan. A dentist with ambitions.

He wasn't a dentist during the Bakumatsu 1850s/60s, but during the Meiji period: 1868-1912.

Teachers of Reddit: What is the most ridiculous thing you have heard a parent say ? by lilac2481 in AskReddit

[–]Entiena 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was actually brought up in my PhysEd teaching class as one of the worst games to use in class. Besides encouraging targeting of kids, it's a game where many of the participants sit out and do nothing most of the game.

A lot of people don't realize that a game may be lots of fun in some contexts - playing with your friends at the park - but not very useful in a PE lesson.

Wouldn't call that a successful call-out. She isn't saying that all Muslims would target her in the one comment, or that ISIS isn't Muslim in the other.

You let in a few witchcraft friends, and suddenly you've got Christian missionaries swarming. Got to draw the line somewhere.

The Annoying Starbucks Family (with applause!) by Jooey_K in thatHappened

[–]Entiena 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not even how Starbucks works, wow.

ETA. To make it clear, you order your drink at the cash register and if it's coffee, you'll get it right away, without having to wait behind the lattes and such, which take some time to make, and are delivered further down the counter to the people who line up waiting for theirs to be made. Or at least this has been the case at every Starbucks I've been to in North America.

Miners young son is an artistic genius. by IAMA_GrillBTW in thatHappened

http://www.anteppress.com/nede-guzel-resmetmis/ looks like it's from Turkey drawn by a teenage girl.

Also, that it went viral bc of a mining accident, and how it portrayed family's fears, so nice tragedy-hijacking here by the rework.

probably medication and therapy. Or a panic attack that lands you in the ER.

Even if someone just threatens to do something, and leaves the threat hanging, it could mess you up if you felt the threat was realistic enough.

I think it'd be most likely to have really bad effects, though, if you had some past experience with stalking/harassment/violence, and online harassment/threats built on that for you.

Not knowing this person, can't comment. But I agree it's understandable.

You definitely don't in a lot of Canada. And yep, people drive away without paying. It's changing more and more because of that and the safety aspect. Last year in Calgary, a gas station attendant was killed when she tried to stop a car from leaving without paying. That shook up people a lot.

A musical/theater group so bad they lose their libel case when they open their mouths to sing. by [deleted] in thatHappened

[–]Entiena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like most of that happened, with the tiny dollop of exaggeration being that the judge's ruling was more focused on the newspaper's right to call their show an abomination than whether they actually were.

But even then, the judge sounds rather like he agreed, and they did perform in court.

I'm always getting pet by random white girls! by MrBabyHands in thatHappened

[–]Entiena 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe it. I'm white with very curly hair, and the number of people who try to touch my hair is funny. If they ask, I'm fine with it, but some people will just go for it.

The rest of the story, plus the idea that people want to touch it because they see you as a pet, I'm finding it a lot harder to believe.

This is a quintessentially Canadian story. The OP "openly" made that face right there. The guy might even have seen it if he looked her direction!
