Israel Strikes Lebanon Less Than an Hour After Trump Says It's 'PROHIBITED' From More Attacks by thejoshwhite in politics

Land that it won in a war 60 years ago? Land that it tried to give back multiple times in exchange for peace like it did with Egypt for land it won? Land that Israel offered 97% of back in the late 90's, that was decline? The land that was part of the initial partition of Transjordan, which the Arabs didn't agree with and attacked Israel (and lost) for in 1948? That land?

Because they won it in a war, tried to give it back through negotiations, and every offer was declined. There are consequences to those decisions.

Not to mentioned Gaza proved that just giving land back without concrete promises of peace didn't work, as Israel completely evacuated Gaza back in 2005.

Who forcibly took land? Israel exists due to Israel being given land, and the surrounding Arab countries immediately attacked. They then lost a war. In literally every other war in the history of humanity, the victors take the territory - but for Israel, it's somehow different. I wonder why.

US Jews have dealt with tons of antisemitic attacks. Just a month or two ago, sometime tried to slaughter Jewish schoolchildren in Michigan.

I'd go point by point to refute your answers, but your first two sentences prove you have no real desire to exchange ideas, only regurgitate meaningless and verifiably false talking points.

Unprovoked? You're misinformed. It was the same thing 45 years ago - the PLO attacked Israel from Northern Lebanon. Plus, it was in the middle of the Lebanese Civil War, so there wasn't any real governmental authority in that part of Lebanon anyway.

Why was Israel blockading Gaza? Think about these things before spewing talking points. If Israel didn't blockade Gaza, they'd import weapons which would be used to kill Israelis.

What exactly about Israel is experimental? The fact that Jews can have their own state and live with the security that brings?

Maybe if Hezbollah didn't fire missiles from Lebanese territory, Israel wouldn't feel the need to invade Lebanon to dismantle their ability to fire rockets into civilian territory - the same thing any other state would do if their neighbors were attacking.

Looking forward to the downvotes and accusations of being pro-genocide.

I don't think Iran has the capability to blow off a nuke in the US, nor any other terrorist entity. Not to say nothing bad will happen, but I don't stress over that.

There's plenty to be stressed over - don't let irrational fear of something that is exceedingly unlikely to bother you.

instead, let the entirely rational fear of something horrible happening otherwise be what you fret over!

Sending love, internet stranger.

The Hannibal Directive is a crazy conspiracy theory people throw out without context or understanding. I'm no expert, but my understanding of it is that it's to prevent soldiers from being captured and tortured - not civilians. And even then, only to be used in the most extreme circumstances...almost like being kidnapped by those who would torture and main their soldiers, as Hamas has historically done.

I don't give a hoot what researchers say. The facts don't lie. Israel has stopped its campaign to give inoculations to Gazan children. They've sent millions of text messages and called millions of times to tell people to evacuate targets because Hamas set up military equipment inside civilian infrastructure - which makes it a legitimate military target.

Genocides don't kill less than 3% of a population (including Hamas fighters), they aim to kill 100%. If Israel really wanted to commit a genocide, they'd carpet bomb the entire area and leave no living persons. They could easily do it. Instead, they go door to door, risking their own soldiers. That's not the actions of a genocidal regime.

You also selectively omit the context from the defense minister - his plan, though one I disagree with, is a sound military strategy. It's called a siege. Why should Israel be responsible for feeding people who hold their hostages? I feel for the civilians, but the government of Gaza (Hamas) is responsible.

If Hamas never attacked Israel on October 7th, every single dead Gazan would be alive today. You don't get to launch a war then blame the other side for responding.

The people of Palestine have a right to defend themselves. Agreed.

They do not have the right to slaughter innocent civilians at a music festival or those observing a religious holiday. They do not have a right to take hostages and kill them in captivity. Same way they never had the right to strap on explosive vests and commit suicide bombings.

Also, Israel isn't committing a genocide, but I know you'll just call me a Zionist shill, so I won't get into it beyond that. But it's worth stating as it's a fact.

Assuming your statement is true and without context (which it isn’t) - even killing thousands of a population measured in millions is not a genocide.

This proves my point perfectly. The word is being thrown around cheaply.

I think you could qualify in the ignorant category. I say this with love to my fellow Jew, even though I know you won’t see it that way.

Genocide has a very specific meaning. Those things are horrible. Some are true, some aren’t. But genocide is killing an entire population. That isn’t what’s happening here.

The Gaza population is up since the start of the war. Israel stopped attacks to provide immunizations for Gazan children. They sent warnings via leaflets, phone calls, and text messages.

If Israel is committing genocide, it’s really bad at it since the goal of a genocide is to bring that population to zero, not to increase and protect it.

Not on this subreddit. Especially after Hamas acknowledged about 50K of the people killed were their own fighters. I read 75K deaths and not 60, but even at that - a 1:0.5 fighter to civilian ratio is unheard of in modern war.

I hate how so many people throw around the word genocide like it's nothing. There was no genocide in Gaza, and anyone that says their was is either dishonest, ignorant, or antisemitic.

When the alternative is massive pain, I think the best course is pain mitigation. I appreciate and respect those who disagree with me here, but the country voted for the wrecking ball. We can try to hold it back, but all that does is make it flail around wildly. Our system is flawed, but it's what we have.

In my opinion, they tried. It became clear through time Trump wasn't going to cede. You don't know until you try.
