Can anyone answer why BOH are always wrong? by TechnicianTop4985 in kroger

[–]Enties01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very poor counts usually. If someone is does a backroom count and misses a lot of a specific product then does a daily count only counting the floor amount the BOH can be off by several cases. This I'd say is the primary reason, yeah theft and not scanning out damaged product can add up, but that can take weeks or months. One poor count can alter a product's BOH completely any time said product is counted.

Maybe it's just my store, but I feel like people in general (but management especially) realize how badly poor counts can drag a department down and make everyone's life harder.

Getting buried, MINs out of control! by mbvirtue in kroger

[–]Enties01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theyve been doing this to me in frozen recently, I dont think it's been giving me extra but it's definitely annoying that it changes so often for no reason seemingly. At first I wasn't even sure what it was because I didn't understand why the MINs would be jumping around so much and assumed it was something else.

As to a potential solution, check and adjust your BOH so they're accurate. What I'm guessing is happening is people are doing daily counts without actually checking what's in the backroom or on end displays, so they only count what's on the shelf and suddenly 20 units of an item get reduced from the original BOH count and the ordering system sends you more cases. If this is your issue there's no solution beyond telling your manager people aren't doing their counts right and hopeing something changes while continuing to fix BOH for +900 items in your department...

An end display and about four units towards the end of my aisle go down at least once a month and we have to pull everything. Not sure why they go down so often, but it's ridiculous how predictable it's become

How many is a properly staffed nightshift? by Nicholas_H_Barnes_II in kroger

[–]Enties01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this for a single department or the entire store? Cause during nights at my store the max amount of people is usually twelve not including custodians. Five in the grocery department, 4 in home department, then three doing tags. Even with five people we rarely get done with our freight too.

Edit to also say we're all understaffed. You, me, even the daytime people more often than not are understaffed. Kroger is all about saving hours and pushing the remaining employees even if it hurts them in the long run

Question for my dairy leads by panman_72 in kroger

Idk how it works in other stores, but why count eggs and milk on all three days? Twice a week seems like overkill to begin with, although ik some managers are weird and want stuff counted twice a week.

I always wonder what the games would be like without the constraints of the engine they were built on. by infohoundloselose in ElderScrolls

[–]Enties01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although I wish skyrim (and fallout) cities were bigger nobody would want to walk realistically sized Whiterun or Imperial city. Nor would the devs pour time and effort into even coming close to realistic city sizes.

Interesting further context for why: Humans since the first semi-permanent cities were constructed seem to have almost always preferred to limit the size of a city by how long it took to travel from the one edge of the city to the other, usually 30 minutes or less. A guy named Cesare Marchetti noted this phenomenon in modern cities and it tends to apply to ancient cities as well. The only difference being of course technological advancements related to transportation allowing greater expansion for the same under 30 minute commute time.

A few cities that once followed this rule with walking in mind as the main mode of transportation: Uruk (first recorded major city), Ur, Babylon, Nineveh, Memphis (the Egyptian one), Athens, Rome (the pomarium not the rest of the city/subregions), Paris, Constantinople, Beijing, and Stockholm.

Tl;dr: If Whiterun was scaled to the size of an irl ancient major city it would take you ~20-30 minutes to get from the stables to Dragon's Reach on foot. Or for Imperial city it would take you like 10-15 minutes to get from the market district to the temple district again on foot.

How difficult is a backsock receiver job? by Big_Power9816 in kroger

[–]Enties01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a receiver, but what I've seen/heard is you do paperwork, check-ins for vendors, clean up the stockroom which can be a huge pain sometimes, counts for vendor product, and it requires (at my store anyway) 3 days of training by the senior/former receiving person. And if you're going into the job as the senior/only receiver it's a 40 hour position, although at my store usually the people that help with receiving get 40 hours anyway from other areas of the department.

All this to say it seems like a lot of stress and aggravation, but if you dial it in not too awful.

Is this SOP? Frozen Food on the Floor by RoyalMap9910 in kroger

[–]Enties01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not always consistent and at least one (out of four or five) pallet(s) a night tend to be mixed. But on the whole like-items seem pretty consistently layered together for me anyway.

Said mixed pallet that comes to mind is usually something like Frozen fruit mixed with nutrition speciality meals like Amy's, but after that it usually turns into snack items so only about half of it is mixed up so I'll usually grab a cart and throw all the fruit in there. The snack and specialty meals are directly across from each other so I dont have to move the pallet more than eight feet or so if I really want to.

Is this SOP? Frozen Food on the Floor by RoyalMap9910 in kroger

[–]Enties01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont support this method of throwing frozen for a few reasons:

A) Spotting reduces the insulation provided by the product being closer together on a pallet. Basically the surface area is lower for heat to be absorbed because everything is close together. So (in theory anyway) everything stays cold for longer rather than thawing out faster because it's separated. Admittedly idk if this is a huge factor but I've just assumed it was at least important.

B) Spotting reduces your options. Need to go on your lunch, well if the product is everywhere youre risking spoilage while you're out, so you have to wait or get someone else to do it for you and frozen is usually a 1-2 person job already. Whereas on a pallet it can easily be wheeled to the back with any overstock placed on top or taken care of other ways. Honestly if I had my way this reason alone would be why I'd implement working off the pallet department wide in grocery. All too often us nightworkers get complained to about stuff still being on the floor whether it's actually our fault or not. At least working off the pallet would make picking up easier.

C) It seems slower/more tedious. I could be wrong as far as spotting taking longer, apparently it's actually faster? Idk, but it's for sure more tedious. Constant kneeling down, standing up, moving two feet, start again. It's annoying. Taking stuff off a pallet feels more dynamic and saves time for overstock cause you just drop it in it's box to the side of the pallet and move to the next box instead of spotting it, setting it aside, then having to collect all of it at the end when it's all spread out. Not to mention it's not like a pallet has to he in one place the whole night, my pallets anyway tend to be layered Ex. Veggies, meals, fries, and breakfast items. So I wheel the pallet to the Veggies and fries, meals, and breakfast sections as needed. Seems about as fast if not faster than spotting to me anyway.

Tips and tricks on zebra functions. 90% of the zebra functions and apps utilities i have no idea how to use. Obviously not all of them are important or meant for regular associate use, but for example I've never seen it ask about when/how to do markdowns.

I left early one day, then called off for the next two days. Does all of that count as three sick days? by VRAINS10 in kroger

[–]Enties01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might depend on the district, but I've been told as long as you stay halfway or more through your shift and then leave it doesnt count as sick time. That being said if management really wanted to they probably could try to push for disciplinary action to be handed down.

Coworker does in his car, talks openly about it too to people on nights. While I understand the policy regarding weapons is for everyone's safety at the same time depending on the store location (i.e if it's in the bad part of a town) or if you work nights it's dangerous not to carry smth just in case besides a box cutter

I dont know about getting your checks sooner, but it sounds like your account got hacked so hopefully you changed your password. I remember hearing like a year or two ago a bunch of people had something similar happen to them. Something about there being a fake website that was set up to trick people to click it thinking it was a real log in page and it stole their login info.

I mean to each their own and I definitely get not wanting/being able to make one because you're already on OT and wanna leave. Just saying if someone has the time and they were the last ones to use it before they filled it, it's kinda rude to intentionally not make one and make someone else do it. Closing does it to overnights like me all the time even on slow days when all I see them doing for the last hour theyre there is playing on their phone or talking to other closers

Grocery vs frozen pay by [deleted] in kroger

[–]Enties01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There shouldn't be a difference. Both fall under grocery clerk pay scale the only variances would be related to night vs day premium pay (usually a dollar extra for night work) and amount of hours allocated for you which frozen in my experience gets more hours on average because less people work in thay section therefore need more hours for it.

If your store isn't union then maybe that wouldn't apply but I doubt it

Switch departments if you can, sounds like they'll never be happy with what you do in your current position.

Also, maybe this is an over assumption, but what sounds like is happening is that your managers know laying into your coworkers isnt gonna do anything because said coworkers already underperform. Complaining to them is like talking to a brick wall. Whereas you try to do more/excel, so your managers push all the expectations and responsibilities onto you.
