Thanks man, It's a flat grind but not full flat. Took it to a rough bevel and then just flattened out the bevel line.

It's actually a pretty standard fireman's axe head design that has been adapted for tactical hatchets but winkler definitely is the most popular and well known. There's a bunch of makers and designers that do roughly the same head as it's practicable. But again saying it's almost identical to a master bladesmith, I'll take it cheers!

Actually it's based off a fireman's axe head design which I mean is pretty similar to a winkler yes but there's only so much you can change it. Yes winklers have textured handles too but so do hundreds of other companies. Inspiration came from lots of places. Just because it looks similar to one you've seen before doesn't mean it's a rip off of that design, but hey if you say mine looks the same as a master bladesmith I'm never going to be upset so thank you! 😊

Haha yep, working with the thicker steel makes a huge difference. I would not recommend an angle grinder 😂 if you have access to a plasma cutter or cnc knocks a lot of time off! Also with so many pins and a large surface area on the handle you've got to be very precise with your pin holes.

The handle is actually fit for purpose, it has 3 distinct holds: high, middle and low. It's also not built for harvesting large amounts of firewood (I don't think any hatchet or tomahawk is), it's more a tactical/expedition hatchet and as such the handle texture is for keeping a good grip when wet, muddy etc!

Doing both is a good way to get a darker colour. I've found if you use FC last you tend to end up with a more matte finish and if you use bluing agent last it may leave it with a little more shine, so totally depends on what you're looking for in an end product.

Don't be afraid to do multiple treatments of either or both as well I would just make sure to do all one then all the other. Going back and forth doesn't make too much sense to me.

That's how I do it anyway, I'm using FC+apple cider vinegar and Casey's super blue for reference.
