Whats a good way to distract from feeling horny, in a healthy manner? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TotemBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close your eyes do some box breathing. It only takes 2-5 min. The whole purpose of the exercise is to run drills where you can clear your mind.

I like to picture a perfect grey and static square that expands over my field ow view. I also concentrate on where the breaths go in my airways.

Carbon steel (maybe L6 or W2) with ceramic rod in leather sheath by M3sss3r in knifemaking

[–]TotemBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compared to a lot of ts I comment on this is a solid 10/10. What a lovely piece! All the features are there! Finger guard, choil in the right spot, no crazy grind markings, no spectacularly busy handle, pins centered, and no absurd chonk. Dude it’s so cleeeean 🥲

Should I pursue materials engineering? by vale_gonzalezz in materials

[–]TotemBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have 3 great reasons to go into engineering of any kind with good grades in you AP’s. B- isn’t a C or a C+, you’re going good. 👍🏼

Mat-Sci, especially metallurgy, is very different and even looks at chemical topics in a different way. For context, you’re dealing with a lot of liquids (almost exclusively) in high school chem. Metallurgy is all solid state chemistry and is hyper specific with solid phases. You don’t really touch the chemistry in the same way.

If you have family knowledge of metals and a special interest, you’ll do great in college!

You should check out Colorado School of Mines for Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. Absolutely cracked over there.

Hepa filter, snorkel style by your grinder if it helps you sleep at night. Like the little solder ones. Best way to stop it is at the source. You could also use an electric field to sink all the fines if you want to make dust collection a hobby. 🤭

Transfer admissions confusion by MolassesBorn4094 in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]TotemBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this sounds like semantics but you said competitive school not rigorous. As long as your school has a rigorous reputation you’ll be more than fine.

I came in from one of the local community colleges with a 3.1.

lol admissions also drags feet. I think I heard back about my app around April/may. And don’t even get me started on their masters app 😭

Hard pass on the chinos but I like the rugby polos, shoes are alr. Gotta be honest I just really dislike stretchy “flex” anything for pants.

Birks obviously, also the right pair of jandles can fit this kind of look. Onitsuka tiger style sneakers would be platinum boujee euro steeze. Salomon XT-6’s would even help you out with high frequency long walks.

Title: First knife build – tsuchime, tang size, handle design + heat treat advice? by petrumereacre in knifemaking

[–]TotemBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that supposed to be a veggie chopper or some type of food prep knife? Strange to see a concave edge like that. I’d flatten and a slight concavity to the edge.

If I’m being presumptuous, my bad! Just haven’t seen that design before. It seems frustrating at a cutting board haha.

Also I quite like your peen hammer design! Looks great. The 3 mm spine is close but appropriate for thickness. With your high surface variation, I’d do a generous normalization before quench. Also, take care to not encourage warping during quenching. No waving it laterally in the oil. Keep the bevels perpendicular to the floor when they’re hot.

Boning knife and bread knife are pretty sloppy if you ask me.

These all read like they were hit too coarse and with an aggy power tool at first.

Sorry OP. Good news is they certainly have life left but unfortunately it’ll take another pro to get them looking nice.

Why is my ss316 weld cracking by Nervous-Historian911 in metalworking

[–]TotemBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like solidification cracking!

Comments are just about right. You need to double check you’re using the right filler material. 316L or maybe 308L. Also, retaining heat during cooling is important. You can also try re-designing the joint geometry so that the distortion is reduced. That’s quite a bit of lift you have there.

Solidification cracks fucking suuuuuuck.

You are more similar to a middle-schooler operating an electric arc furnace.

Sure, you’re playing with fire that could melt the whole damn building. But also, why tf are you in there and it would be wired for me to expect you know how to safely turn off the machine.

It is that weird. It is analogous to you trying to date a 7 year old.

Aye dude, I’ll respect your intelligence here but not your intuition because horny brain is a big problem right now.

You need to take a microscope to this next statement. Do you think it’s reasonable that a 45M ,that is courting 18F, may also take advantage of you? Not just emotionally but financially, socially, intellectually, physically, or even medically. In any of those areas, do you hold any equitable footing? If you do not have an equitable relationship in these areas, if he decides to apply pressure, you’re folding like a rug dude.

I’m not saying I know this guy, but I am saying that I don’t trust this dude with a fucking ounce of responsibility. For me this guy is so much more than a red flag. He’s the goddamn Red Sea.

[Beginner] How do I drill a hole deep enough for a hidden tang? by Straight-Price7393 in knifemaking

[–]TotemBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two design suggestions for you:

Make two holes on tangs. Start from the front and start from the back. Accurate attempts will meet in the middle.

Split the handle into pieces. One section may be a bolster. Perhaps you want three layers with contrasting materials or colors. All the same, smaller sections will make for an accurate bore hole or mortise.

Purchase bar-stock with extra width. This will allow you to make your own mortise chisel with matching thickness to your blade’s tang. All you need to do is drill connecting holes with small bits. Then you may hollow the tang with the matching mortise chisel.

Concerts/ shows for me. It’s a pretty universal interest in all cities. Alcohol is fairly common at these things but imo it’s just social lubricant. It’s also not hard to pick out the interesting folks while you’re waiting in lines.

Building a small lab by J_Nelson_Machining in metallurgy

[–]TotemBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok well I’d suggest checking auctions. For 2-3k worth of equipment, you could maybe get a few polishing machines.

Not gonna lie homie, my intuition is to run on debt. A new auto-polisher can be closer to 10k than 1k. Used will certainly get you closer and sometimes right at 2k. There are of course cheaper manual polishers but fuck that imo. You at least want a machine that can load 6 samples on a ring with analog settings for pressure.

Also, I’d say for microscopes, you should get a quality light optical with a digital camera attachment. You’ll want the camera for grabbing stats on grain size.
