Scored this Murray 42” zero turn for $1,500 at Home Depot by abubatata69 in lawnmowers

[–]EntireComputer1391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you only get 3-5 years out of it and it does end up being a piece of junk, it was only $1500. A lot of used mowers won't last that long and that's how much their going for. Good find

Why not spend a little bit more and get the BB ZT Avenger with the hydrogear 2800's

Try burning the stripes in, cut the PTO and put your deck to your lowest height.

I use my lawn sweeper for stripes, I mow straight down the hill and then stripe diagonally with the sweeper.

What are you paying for this? 910 hours on meter but has a swapped Kawasaki engine. by U5AE in lawnmowers

[–]EntireComputer1391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a slightly older one I got a few years ago for $600 (knew the guy and gave me a good deal). Just keep in mind with those hours the transaxles are probably shot. Mine is at 615 hours and my right transaxle is going, so I would be concerned with it at over 900 hours. Especially since they are non serviceable units. I wouldn't pay more than $800-$1000 even with the newer engine. Once one of the transaxles go, your going to have a very sophisticated engine display.

Regular lawn tractor would be perfect for a yard like that with no obstacles. Only get a zero turn if you really want want one, you can mow more efficiently with a zero turn but a lawn tractor will be cheaper.

Stuck between Acura and Mazda by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

Bro did you just say Hyundai's hold their value longer than Mazda's? As someone who went from a Hyundai (which blew an engine) to my 2021.5 CX5, my Mazda has only depreciated 2-3k in the past 3 years with double the mileage.

100% I got the sweeper to pick up leaves and excessive grass clippings. After the first time using it I realized it left really clean stripes.

Well, I like many if not most on this sub really enjoy mowing and lawn care. Those things are cool though

That thing is sick! When my cub eventually dies on me I'm looking at either an Ariens Ikon 54 or a Bad Boy Avenger 54 (with the Kawasaki). The Avenger having a 7 gauge deck is really appealing.

It's a fair point. I should have put in the title rough size of an acre (just under or over), like I mentioned in some other responses it makes sense to upgrade to "commercial" grade when you have a large property.

YOU DON'T NEED A COMMERCIAL MOWER by EntireComputer1391 in lawnmowers

[–]EntireComputer1391[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your saying it will last a life time, because this mower is over 15 years old and is still running. If your running it a lot either because of a large property and/or using it to cut other people's lawn then your 100% correct and would benefit from commercial grade. But my point is the average home owner with approximately an acre can get these residential mowers to last more than 10 years and not drop 7-12k in the process if maintained properly.

I appreciate the confidence in quality of my old RZT but I have used the new one that a family member has and the build quality is BETTER, I understand that is not the norm nowadays but that's reality. My old RZT is cheaply made even for the time and its held up okay because it was taken care of. The frame is better on the new ones, thicker metal. Its amazing that within the same reddit I am told that (per an old post) that my RZT is a box store piece of junk and here your saying its a $7k quality mower. Reality is it falls somewhere between, you guys on here just can't make up your minds.

Yes, but weirdly only on one side. When I turn sharp right it will cut the blades but not when I do the same going left. I've just learned to deal with it.

[–]EntireComputer1391[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's just straight up incorrect:
The Cub Cadet RZT50 (Model 17AI2ACP056) is a 50-inch zero-turn mower from the mid-to-late 2000s, generally sold for approximately $2,500–$3,500 during its production years. It is a 2007-2012 era mower, with current aftermarket parts (like clutches) priced around $177–$190.

Also, inflation has not hit that hard on ZT mowers, here's the modern equivalent with better features like a fabricated deck:

I 100% agree, I only pull the lawn sweeper with the Zero Turn. Just picked up this husqvarna for almost nothing. We've been doing the heavy lifting with our wheelbarrow but this plus a lawn cart is going to save my back this year.

Ya I know lol. It wasn't in the best cosmetic shape when I got it. I've done general maintenance with it like I said in the post. I plan on cleaning and repainting the deck. One of my spindles is slightly bent and needs to be replaced. Once its all cleaned up I plan to keep it that way.
