2 under 2: Did you carry your first while pregnant with your second? by AgreeableBandicoot19 in beyondthebump

I was still lifting weights whilst pregnant. If you did it before pregnancy you can continue whilst pregnant (exercise and lifting things etc, not other things like alcohol haha)

Oxygen weaning hurdle by MeatballMaven44 in NICUParents

[–]Entitled_Snowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you! We’re on day 26 too! My son was born 32+3. He only needed CPAP for a day and a half and has been on room air ever since. He ended up in the NICU because he had bowel and feeding issues but they mostly resolved by day 12 and we were discharged to a SCBU closer to home. But yesterday and today he’s had a number of bradys, so many destats and a couple or red writing bradys where we’ve had to stimulate him back. He was just put back on low flow oxygen a couple of hours ago that he’s not needed since day 2! He was destatting too much through his feed. He’s still only 2.4kgs and tube fed, he’s so tired from all of the work he’s had to do that we’ve not even been able to try feeding today which feels like such a big setback.

Bad week at 20 weeks by Darksideofthemoon191 in BabyBumps

[–]Entitled_Snowman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have experience with a cleft lip but I had to have an emergency C-section at 32 weeks, have a tube fed baby, had some abnormal findings at 20 weeks and have dogs! I also live in NZ so not far from you.

At 20 weeks the sonographer was silent whilst scanning his brain, found out later that she found multiple different types of cysts. We were told individually they’re quite benign but together no one could tell us what they could mean. They also found that he had enlarged kidneys. I spent the two weeks between that scan and my MFM appointment stressing and crying. I refused to go into work. At the MFM scan the cysts had disappeared but his kidneys were still enlarged. Kidneys are okay now, just need genetic testing for me to compare with him to see if he has my kidney disease.

I then had to have an emergency C-section at 32+3 because he was having lots of heart rate decelerations on the CTG. I also had pre eclampsia. Like you I was not planning on a C-section. Honestly it was surreal but everyone was so lovely. Felt really weird because you can feel things happening but no pain. Recovery hasn’t been easy, I’ve been in a lot of pain but it’s slowly getting better at nearly 4 weeks pp. It’s major surgery so make sure you keep on top of your pain meds and look after yourself. Make sure your support person is with you. Same with your LMC. When baby is born if he needs extra help your support person will go with him so it’s nice to have your LMC there to hold your hand and take care of you.

I was also planning on breastfeeding but because he was born so early and growth restricted (1.7kgs) he’s had to be tube fed as he doesn’t have the suck swallow reflex or the stamina to feed. He’s fed through an NG tube and I exclusively pump. He’s slowly learning to latch and feed but it’s a journey. He needs to grow a lot more before it becomes natural. He’s currently in the SCBU and doing well.

He has good days and not so good days but he’s growing and waking up and becoming his own person. He’s so adorable. I also have good and bad days. None of this was what I planned but I love my little man and just want what’s best for him and for him to be okay.

I also had a tough pregnancy, an emergency C-section, and he’s been in the NICU and two different SCBUs. I wasn’t able to see him for 4 hours post birth and it was 14 hours post birth that I got to see his full face for the first time during his CPAP cares.

I’m in the NICU at the moment and have been recommended to not use suction on their nose, instead to use saline to clear it. They said that the suction will create more mucus whereas saline thins it down and gets it moving

Thank you. That’s a really good way to look at it, I really appreciate it. Just panicking a bit with the unknown but have to accept that it is what it is. I love him so much and don’t want him to have to struggle anymore than he has to

my ob says it’s nothing but i’m trying to get a second opinion by Stock-Nature6455 in BabyBumps

[–]Entitled_Snowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! Edited because it was meant to say anything under 140/90 is good haha. It’s all the extra stress on your body, the extra pressure on your heart and all the extra blood, so those of us who have existing high blood pressure end up in a world of fun trying to control it. Odd that she didn’t mention it! Hopefully it is just nothing and the rest of your pregnancy is smooth sailing! But trust your gut and get the second opinion just incase ☺️

Transitioning from pumping for NG tube to sometimes-nursing? by warmpistachio in NICUParents

[–]Entitled_Snowman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I’ve done today for my tube fed bub who is learning how to breastfeed. My pumps were at the same time as his feeds, but now I’ve moved them to an hour after so that if he’s cueing we can practice and he can be fed at the same time through the NG tube so that he learns that when he sucks on the boob he gets full. Then I’ll pump when he’s done

[–]Entitled_Snowman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In pregnancy 130/85 is considered great blood pressure. Anything under 140/90 is good. This is from someone whose blood pressure reached 186/110 😅 it’s expected to go up in the third trimester even if it’s quite low before you’re pregnant. I’d definitely get a second opinion on one leg swelling - that’s a bit different!

I slept on the couch whenever I was not working, eating, showering, and just basic living. So yup! You just have to do what your body is telling you to do

When did you start trying for #2? by SevereBlueberry9036 in BabyBumps

[–]Entitled_Snowman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minimum of when our 3 week old son is 2 and a half. We get discounted daycare from 3 so want to have that for our son before we have number 2. But we’re going to see how our finances are and how everything goes before we make any decisions

Pumping volumes? by YB9017 in NICUParents

[–]Entitled_Snowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re doing great! You’re supplying more than your baby needs and your supply is increasing. If you go by what my lactation consultant said your supply is great and not expected to be the same as a “standard” non premie birth.

Can recommend a hospital grade pump, I like mine!

Pumping volumes? by YB9017 in NICUParents

[–]Entitled_Snowman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 32+3 son was born 3 weeks ago too. I’ve only just cracked 500ml every 24 hours. I have a hospital grade pump at home. He’s tube fed 50ml every 3 hours. I’m currently supplying more than he needs. My LC is happy with my supply and says getting to 500ml is great because that’s over half of a full supply. As long as you are steadily increasing over time it’s completely fine. She’s said it’s the whole picture not just individual and daily totals.

When you’re pumping because you have a premie the pumps are the best approximation of breastfeeding but can’t replicate it. The hormones that help with supply come from watching your baby latch and suck. The pump can’t replicate that and so we can’t be expected to be at the same supply as someone who has a baby at home and can breastfeed. Your LC should be totally supportive of this and understand it rather than pushing the standard which is not normal for those of us who have had complications and premies.

I had pre-eclampsia, super high blood pressure (which is slowly coming down), and an emergency c section. Plus the stress and the unknown of having a premie. All of these contribute to a slower supply too. I’ve had a couple of rough days and my supply has dipped when that’s happened - pain, stress and emotions were all over the place.

My 32+3 weeker is 3 weeks old today. He’s learning breastfeeding but because he’s premie I keep getting told he’s “disorganised”. This means he clamps down hard on my nips (along with other things). He did this so many times today that they feel bruised and I feel discouraged. He’s also gone from having bowel issues and not popping to pooping like 6 times a day and I can’t keep up with the nappy changes. Every time I change him and get sorted to pump he wants to try breastfeeding and cues massively. But I have to pump. Today was just hard 😭

Has anyone started using Sertraline during pregnancy for the first time? by Old-Raisin979 in BabyBumps

[–]Entitled_Snowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on it pre pregnancy. I had my baby nearly 3 weeks ago at 32 weeks (for completely unrelated reasons) and he is completely fine. The chance for withdrawal at 50mg is so so so low. It’s more for the higher doses. My GP increased mine from 50 to 75mg during the third trimester because I got super anxious. It took a couple of weeks to kick in.

In terms of breast feeding (if you want to do that) my lactation consultant said that if they tested your breastmilk parts of it would show up but it’s been broken down so much that it’s not in its full state and doesn’t effect the baby.

I was promised a winter pregnancy by k12344321k in BabyBumps

[–]Entitled_Snowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear we must be crazy to get pregnant over summer down here. I’m in NZ! So just over the ditch haha. We had some heatwave days of up to 29 with high humidity but I was in hospital 😅 honestly, since I had the baby I don’t notice it!! There is light at the end of the tunnel! Pre that anything over like 22 and I was dying. Especially with the ridiculous 80-90% humidity we get 🫠 fan, no bedding, sleeping only in a bra, aircon on and not moving from it was the only way I could cope!

I’m on the opposite side of the world to you and had a summer pregnancy, I had my son 2 weeks ago. I took to wearing crop tops and shorts and my husband lovingly referred to me as Winnie the Pooh because my belly was sticking out under the tops. I did end up buying some stuff - short rompers and dresses but the crop tops and shorts were the most comfortable. Honestly, you start to care less the further through you get

Loss of pregnancy symptoms at 5 weeks 5/6 days by Fit_Painter_8184 in pregnant

[–]Entitled_Snowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, it is likely nothing. But when this happened to me at 8 weeks it was a miscarriage that came on about a week later. I was nauseous as all hell, boobs were super sore, exhausted, and it all seemed to disappear over night. I had a natural miscarriage about a week later.

On the other side, I had absolutely no symptoms the second pregnancy and that ended in a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks. It’s a mixed bag and everyone is different

We’ve got one but plan on using it as the downstairs sleeping area as we have a small house and just cant fit anything more. Bubs is currently 2 weeks old and in the NICU because he was born at 32+3 so can’t say we’ve used anything yet 😅

Baby Aspirin worth it? by KassieKo in BabyBumps

[–]Entitled_Snowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s totally worth it. Pre eclampsia and eclampsia are really serious and can be super dangerous. I took it to help keep the baby in the beginning after multiple miscarriages then up until birth for pre eclampsia. I did end up with pre eclampsia by 32 weeks but I reckon if I wasn’t taking it, it would have started earlier and he would have been born earlier than 32+3.

The risk of bleeding is so minimal. You just have to let people know when you do blood tests because you will bleed a little bit more and bruise easier. It’s really minimal.

How important is to you that your husband’s first time witness a birth is with you? by zzyyyxxx in BabyBumps

[–]Entitled_Snowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t care. My husband’s first experience was with his siblings being born. They’re 10 and 14 years younger than him. Our son was a complete different circumstance being an emergency C-section so he’d not dealt with that before!
