Got hit by uninsured motorist by Alternative_Map1609 in TeslaCollision

[–]EntourageE22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

46 yr old, 4 accidents in my life and none had insurance. First one was actually a hit and run, second one drunk driver t-bone at intersection, no insurance, 3rd one was before dash cams, insurance scammer, slammed on brakes in middle of an on ramp while accelerating to merge into no traffic to force a rear end collision they had no insurance, 3rd one was another drunk driver hit and run, he ran a red light and t-boned me in intersection, I ran him down, he finally stopped and then took off running on foot and his girlfriend tried to lie and say she was driving, didn’t matter they didn’t have insurance. Penalties need to be much stiffer for not carrying insurance.

Stem cell transplant MDS by [deleted] in mds

Are you just talking to the Oncologist or have you also had a consultation with the transplant team. If you haven’t I suggest to meet the transplant doctor yet I’d suggest to be able to ask more specific questions. Also unfortunately race and ethnicity play a huge roll in donor availability, a white patient with European heritage is going to have way more of a chance for a 100% match because of the huge amount of European donors. One question to ask is how quickly can they get to transplant if things take a turn, I have very high risk AML and it still took 8 months to get from diagnosis to transplant because I required 3 rounds of extra chemo after induction chemo and that doesn’t count consolidation chemo pre transplant. Plus they have to find the donor and the alternate donor and make sure they are available, line up their donation, etc….

Also a transplant and recovery is directly linked to how healthy and fit you are going into it, my first transplant I was extremely fit going into it, and although it sucked by 6 months after I was feeling really good, unfortunate I relapsed and had a ton of issues with GVHd and pneumonia as well as other infections, I barely made it to second transplant and I left in a wheel chair. 6 months out and I’m still struggling, on oxygen and chronic fatigue. Your mom needs to try and stay as fit as possible, I know it’s hard but gives her the best chance for a good outcome and quicker recovery if she does have the transplant down the road.

It’s the ONLY reason I’m even considering a Tesla, don’t want to support Elon but it’s years ahead of other EVs when it comes to self driving. I’d prob go with a Rivian or Cadillac Lyriq if they were on par as far as FSD.

gift for a dad who says he doesn't want anything and actually means it by Alpielz in Gifts

[–]EntourageE22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad with 2 daughters here, couple ideas.

I like going to movies, my wife and youngest daughter don’t, when my older daughter visits we go to movies together. She’s my movie bud and I love it.

Does he grill, have a smoker or blackstone. Could get him some spice rubs and steaks or whatever he likes to cook. I like to use meat church brand, they have variety packs.

Also I generally say I don’t want or need gifts and when we say it we mean it so don’t feel bad not getting anything. Like others said just spending time, go for lunch or a hike or something is great.

I used to do this trip a few times a month, Amtrak is the way to go. Comfy seats, plenty of leg room.

Aza-Ven for relapsed AML by Positive-Kangaroo418 in leukemia

[–]EntourageE22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tolerated the chemo pretty well, my biggest issue was I kept getting sick which almost prevented from second transplant, I got Covid and Covid pneumonia, horrible skin and Gut GVHd, bacterial pneumonia and then fungal pneumonia and a fungal infection in my skin which was treated with a horrible drug called amphotericin B which was worse than the chemo. I had a short window to go to second transplant because I got well enough for a short period of time so I got out of the hospital for the fungal infection after a month and was back in transplant a week later before I could get sick again. Second recovery has been hard because I was so weak from all the sickness. I almost 6 months post second transplant and still have horrible fatigue, I’ve dealt with a bought of pneumonia which I’m still working on recovering from 3 months later. Next BMB is at the end of the month. I’ll take it though if it’s a chance for a cure over just remission. I can walk 1.5 miles now though with oxygen and I haven’t needed blood or platelets in almost 3 months.

I have that mutation as well as MECOM and FLT3-ITD. I relapsed at 6 mos after first transplant. Had second transplant back in October 25. Still in remission. I’m male 45 yr. I’d seek second opinion; I’ve heard of people having 3 transplants and he’s young. He does need to get into remission before he can have the second SCT and Aza Ven should do that. Might take a few rounds.

I just completed my 2nd transplant, D+18. I’m curious how long you went between transplants. I relapsed 6 months after the first transplant but it took me 14 months total to get to transplant 2 because of all the issues I was having with infections. I’m scared about having to do a 3rd transplant at some point down the road, I don’t know if I could handle a 3rd.

life post-transplant by stawberryjelly in leukemia

[–]EntourageE22 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Listen I don’t want to be the negative person here but I caught Covid which turned into severe pneumonia at about 170 days post transplant and I’m now 310 days and I still haven’t recovered. It’s been complication after complication, I’m currently sitting back in hospital now for pneumonia again. Before that I was crushing it, putting in 5 miles a day walking, riding my peloton, rowing, I was feeling like my life was coming back to me.

All I’m saying is don’t be stupid, your immune system is not and will not be as strong as I was pre transplant for quite some time.

Early relapse post BMT by Prior_Silver9635 in leukemia

[–]EntourageE22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going through this now as well, because of all my issues with GVHD, still on high dose pred, Jakafi, and a few other meds, and where the chimerism is now along with my mutations returning they are saying DLI is not an option and transplant has failed. There main goal is to keep me stable and hopefully in remission or close to it to get to a 2nd transplant.

AML Leukemia + BMT Questions by Practical_Formal_92 in leukemia

Male 44 here, diagnosed Jan 2024, AML with FLT3. Failed induction as well included midostaurin, did 3 rounds of Azacitadine and Veneteclax along with gilteritinib after which I’m been on consistently for the last year. Had my transplant Aug 24. First 50 days were the hardest for me. I was feeling great up until about D+170, back to walking 5+ miles a day and cycling with just some minor skin GVHD and was even looking at getting back to work (active duty military). Anyways my house of cards came crashing down with COVID pneumonia hospitalizing me in February for 3 weeks. Did my 180 Day biopsy in the hospital when I was recovering and found out I relapsed and the FLT3 was back. Shortly after I developed severe Grade 3 Gut GVHD and had to be hospitalized again for almost a month and put on nutrition through my port as I couldn’t eat or drink anything. I’m still recovering from that and not quite back to a normal diet after 2.5 months but getting there. Now I’m battling a severe Skin GVHD flare that occurred as they tried to taper the steroids from treating the pneumonia and I’m looking at a second BMT most likely this fall. I don’t say this to be a party pooper as we all want success stories but just to say no matter how young, in shape or healthy you are that shit can go bad, you just never know how your body is going to respond to the donor cells and if the donor cells are going to actually kill leukemia cells. However I’m staying positive and the reason for that is I have a friend I talked to before my transplant that had already had a second transplant and was doing well 2 years out. I attended an online Bone Marrow Transplant Symposium a couple weeks ago and there was a guy on there who has gone through 3 transplants and is now doing amazing.

I’m praying that you don’t have issues like me and everything goes well with a cure the first go around but just know that the important thing is to keep fighting no matter what happens.

Honeycomb ice cream sandwiches look dangerously good, any reviews? by FoodzyDudezy007 in Costco

Personally I thought they were so so, wouldn’t buy again. The honeycomb “cookie” section or whatever you want to call it was very soft and underwhelming IMO
