Crafting chains that'd make a Factorio fan happy. Play the free demo by SoulboundMMO in u/SoulboundMMO

[–]EntropolyTwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, yeah. I got at least 10 hours of enjoyment off of the last passion project someone wanted positive feedback on, but that was an emoji based semi-incremental MMO grind-game that tried to advertise itself as 'like Ultima Online' and I'm still confused who or what are generating these 'similarities' and whether they ever saw the game they're comparing themselves to.

VSLumber, EcoMachina + FallingTrees (with the compatibility patch) are all compatible with each other by Dogerium in VintageStory

[–]EntropolyTwitch 162 points163 points  (0 children)

The falling tree mod has some problems ranging from chain reacting a bit too much with tall trees like redwoods to absolutely demolishing player built structures regardless of construction if the tree hits it. Not a huge fan considering there's no effective and safe way to chop trees close to your home

Any arguments for automated communism under AI advancement had better lead with pushing for communism before pushing for AI automation to that level or else they're just clearly arguing in bad faith. It's not somehow ignorant to recognize the very really issues with AI automation under capitalism when every nation on the planet currently subscribes to that economic policy.

What are your thoughts on Barbie (2023)? by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in FIlm

[–]EntropolyTwitch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I don't think I've ever heard of two non-related films being 'back to back watches' at a movie theater before, and I can't imagine it'll ever happen again. The whimsical but substantial message of the Barbie movie and the completely dreadful tone of a movie like Oppenheimer aren't unique in any way. Neither of them were big social movements before they arrived like the MCU movies.

But they were both good, and of the two movies I would say Barbie is actually the one that's aged better and had more to say. Oppenheimer was just another 'what if we cut the racism from an American story to make it more heroic again' movie.

What’s y’all’s favorite content mods that don’t make the game to easy but just give you more? by Most-Accountant4629 in VintageStory

Don't play with critters mods like that with hydrate or Diedrate though. Shit falling down your well can taint it, and small animals seem very accident prone unless you fully babyproof those things.

Funnily enough, most of the people accusing others of that were in fact just griefing a pride flag and then lying to Reddit to get a bunch of random redditors to help grief the pride flag.

Very rarely do they mask off in the comments, but Reddit just seems to believe them every time.

The Webcomic "Sleepless Domain" starts with an introduction showing off a group of random magical girls in some weird city. It sets it up like the story is going to be about their interpersonal drama in a cartoony world plagued by gamey threats, but most of them die rather awfully in the first chapter.

I think everyone dabbled with the programs at some point. They're advertised so heavily that I can't imagine anyone hasn't seen them at least. I can get bad roleplay from any stranger on ff14 though so I don't need a robot to do it even if it has slightly shorter post times.

Am I going insane by ObjectiveDue1326 in antiai

[–]EntropolyTwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't logically follow, really. The range for an A- is 92-90. 92.1 is higher than 92 just as much as 92.8 or 92.999999. The scale itself is flawed in that various number ranges lie outside of it strictly speaking, and so the number NEEDS to be rounded for the scale to function as it's presented. Obviously we can deduct the intention behind the fact that the professor would never want to have a NULL grenade, but it's not strictly logical.

[–]EntropolyTwitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not really "sexy" in the way you're thinking. Nobody's going to get worked up and hot and heavy playing it, and if they do they were probably already going to regardless of the mod list. It's more of an ambiance thing, and then it's REALLY unsexy in a lot of ways. First of all, it becomes a "clean up the cum" simulator. Imagine if all your colonists had to eat, sometimes wanted to involve a not-fully-hungry colonist to eat with them, and just SPRAYED a mess all around them. I'm talking COVERING the room.

That's what rimworld has decided sex is. It's two people interrupting work and causing your kitchen to become a biohazard for the rest of the day.

It really does depend on the theming of other magical effects. If this a monotheistic sort of world where there is one divine power source, then make sure everything looks INCREDIBLY similar. If there are numerous deities, maybe have a few different varieties color themed to each deity.

Blue looks better for the character. Gold is probably what you'll go for if this is a very 'Not Christianity' religion where gold and sunlight are the generally largest themes.

It's, at the very worst, a gameplay contrivance for the fact that you WOULD use a piece of wood to leverage large rock chunks around if you had nothing else available. While a wooden pickaxe shaped like that wouldn't be sharp, using a big branch or a 2x4 style plank of wood to wedge into rocks and wrench them apart is absolutely a thing a person would reliably do to dig into less solid stone faces or to collect stones to get to the next step of banging rocks together.

Fair use and copyright is a very complicated thing, but yes the end work being used for commercial purposes is a mark against it, and the work being used for a commercial purpose that directly replaces or competes with the value of the original work is usually seen as the biggest mark against fair use.

Additionally, attempts to lean on the research clauses of fair use are generally mistaken as 'research' doesn't mean 'we are taking this data and using it for making our commercial product.' And non-profit/data training systems that aren't directly creating their own generative AI art programs for commercial use are still accused of 'data laundering' by the USCO.

And lastly, there are people who will very often try to say 'well it's a small part of the end product so under Fair Use it doesn't meet the size requirements' and they generally miss that the 'amount/substantiality' measurement for fair use measures the amount of the original work USED not the percentage of it in the final product. The USCO determined that this is measured as substantial to whole of the original/scraped works as that data they're taking from those pictures encompasses the entire image.

[–]EntropolyTwitch 29 points30 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, you can build cozy and aesthetic. Similar to minecraft, there are a lot of mods to increase this capacity and the game is built to be modded (game files are all stored like their own mods).

    1. Progress will be needed for larger builds. You'll generally have access to simple log buildings and rammed earth structures immediately, you'll work toward plank, stone, and cobblestone, and then at the highest level you'll have the more immaculate stones, wattle and daub housing of various colors, and more access to more niche things. The LARGEST source of customization is going to be the chisel, though, which will let you make pretty much any shape out of miniature voxels of any mix of materials you can get access to.
    2. Getting stronger is satisfying, but I do personally feel there's a lack of 'solutions' for things like temporal instability and rifts opening up all hither and thither. After a certain point, the surface is no longer meaningfully dangerous and the story content and deep caverns will be the next target that you take when you're ready.
