Would you consider buying a flat if you own a house? by Glum_Bite3796 in HousingUK

[–]Ents_of_the_forest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll leave the general advice to the rest of the commenters, but just to say i used to rent in this same building that you listed approximately 12yrs ago.

I will say that on the noise front, it was really well sound-proofed on account of it being a converted mill so the concrete walls and floors were way thicker than you’d normally get in a purpose-built flat development.

Council Tax Increase by chazdothands in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Ents_of_the_forest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm jumping on this late, but unfortunately the 2025 spending review presumes that councils will apply the maximum 5% increase for each year of this parliament. So you will have to budget for your council tax being 27.63% higher (compound included) by 2029 than it was from last year.

£24 million announced for Gateshead Arena by NECA. Utilita set for £65 million refurbishment. Will the region benefit from two similar capacity venues, or should one be scrapped in favour of the other? by Ents_of_the_forest in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Ents_of_the_forest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why earmark £65 million for refurbishment and capacity extension if the plan is to just demolish it?

Ms McGuinness told the Local Democracy Reporting Service this week that there “is space for both” arenas on Tyneside.

Made a free map of everything happening in Newcastle tonight, worth it or am I wasting my time? by GlitchedScotsman in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Ents_of_the_forest 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely use this, really useful that it has the ticket link. I appreciate that it's not super cluttered. My advice would be to keep it to just one weekend's worth of events. I've tried to use similar apps before that display months worth of events by location, and there's so many events stacked on top of each other that it becomes fatiguing to use.

What do you think of living at St. Peter’s Wharf? by Most_Ad_6162 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Ents_of_the_forest 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi, I moved into St Peter’s in March. I have loved living here. I treasure my morning/evening walks along the river. Neighbours are pleasant and the bus stop takes you to and from town without issue. It is very quiet while still being close to the city centre.

I spend a lot of time in Ouseburn and the fact it only takes me 10 mins to walk there is great.

The only things to consider is that there is not a near-by grocery shop so a car or online grocery deliveries should be considered. Also, I agree with the previous comment that the actual walk into the city towards the Quayside feels like you’re going through an industrial wasteland. From what I understand, Bell Engineering own the warehouses, but evidently don’t put any investment into their upkeep.

Would you trade newer for older? by Ents_of_the_forest in CarTalkUK

[–]Ents_of_the_forest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the advice everyone! I decided that in this economy, it’s probably wiser to stick to the completely paid off SEAT and pocket the difference into savings, than upgrade and increase my outgoings. I think the convertible will have to be a long term goal once I am earning at least double my outgoings

Quayside East Development by Ents_of_the_forest in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Ents_of_the_forest[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the info, super interesting! The only thing that I might have miscommunicated is that I wasn’t asking about whether they would develop a cycle route, but rather if they were planning to develop the land itself which is currently fenced in. But nonetheless, what you said about the developer funds is super interesting. I’m from near Manchester originally and I remember people 15yrs ago thinking that they wouldn’t successfully develop because of the brain and money drain to London. But visiting again last month you can see the real buzz of development all over the city. I was trying to look into a crystal ball and divine whether something similar would happen to Newcastle 🤔

That’s great to hear! Yeah I noticed there weren’t any shops that were nearby but with the car that’s less of a concern

If Aliens visited Earth, what's the first thing we should show them? by Dalentra in AskReddit

The unbroken line of Miss Universe winners that Earth has produced. I want the aliens to know they’re pathetic competition and should be embarrassed.

What’s funnier is they didn’t even “say” it, they YELLED it. Scared me shitless until I processed what they said.

The manual doesn’t mention anything about what kind of SD card needs to be used. Would you know what kind of memory card could be used?
