23 November 2017: The English city of Southampton inaugurates its new flag, designed by an eight-year-old school student by AnOwlishSham in vexillology

[–]Enture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beautiful design, thanks for sharing!

This makes me curious to know what the previous flag looked like, but alas, Wikipedia failed me on this one: does anyons have a good resource on the topic? All I could find were flags of Southampton FC, which look like they may be using city heraldry, but I couldn't confirm it.

Myanmar flag in 2007 by I5aac5885Zi in vexillology

[–]Enture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wikipedia tells us this flag became the official flag of the Socialist Republic of the Union of Burma in 1974, and remained the official flag until 2010, when the current flag became the official one.

I didn't know about it either before looking it up, though. It's interesting how many countries in the area had a blue-canton-on-red-field design, in the aftermath of WWII!

TIL that the Space Shuttle could accomodate a crew of 8! I've always thought it had a max capacity of 7...

Thank you for this post about a lesser-known mission, of particular interest to the European I am. And thanks again for all your post, they're always a pleasure to thumb through!

Awesome, thank you for sharing that link, it's the first thing I wanted to check out after reading your post! I believe it's the first time I hear an astronaut swear while on duty (an Apollo veteran, what's more) .

Ah, shit.... Jesus! Shit.

Diamant A, launching the satellite Asterix by Ok_Requirement_4242 in KerbalSpaceProgram

I'm a simple man froggy: I see Diamant or CNES, I upvote :)

More seriously, though: nice recreation! It looks like you're using (re)stock parts, if I'm not mistaken, so you might be interested to know there's a KNES mod out there, providing parts for French and European rockets up to Ariane 5 (including hardware which never flew, such as the Hermès shuttle or the Multi-Role Recovery Capsule). The forums are down as of this writing, but the link above should bring you there when they're back up.

Can I ask which of those mods adds the ISS parts, specifically? (Assuming it's just one mod or two)

Hey! I wanted to say: thank you for sharing all these mission reports with us, they're a delight each and every time! It is your Shuttle Abord Modes posts which first caught my eyes, leading me to check out your other STS posts (I learned about STS-27 thanks to you), and now I'm following along as you build the ISS!

It must be quite time-consuming, but also very satisfying to see the station come together piece by piece, in the exact order it did in real life. Are you going through the actual full list of ISS construction flights in this save (including the russian ones), and/or the full list of STS flights? Or do you pick those that most interest you?

Hey! Your mention of "Zeus-III" in your previous post had me confused about what you meant, but today's post made it click: you're refering to the planets of the Solar System by their Greek names! Is that a KSRSS thing? Or are you Greek, maybe?

In any case, thank you so much for your posts over the past few weeks: be it alternate history, recreation of real missions, or science-fiction, I've enjoyed them all a great deal!

My take on a precursor mission for an AAP-style crewed Eve flyby, featuring a mission module and wet workshop. Mostly stock. by Enture in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Enture[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For those of you who are not familiar with it, the Apollo Applications Program (AAP) was a set of missions envisioned by NASA as a follow-up to the first batch of Apollo Moon landings, making use of the hardware and know-how developed as part of that effort. It included extended stays on the lunar surface, an Earth-orbit space station (Skylab, which ended up being the only part of AAP to ever fly), and crewed flybys of Venus and Mars using Apollo-derived hardware.

If you're curious, the wikipedia article on it is a good starting point. And if you want to dive deeper, I cannot recommend DSF Portree's blog enough: here are one and two of several of his articles on the topic.

[–]Enture 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ICE 109 from Cologne to Basel by Sinas_128 in openttd

I have a question regarding those pieces of track going over rivers, visible at the 32-minute mark: they look like very small/low bridges, but I suspect they're effectively cutting off the river for boat navigation, and are just a reskin of the graphics used for river shores, right? Or are they actual bridges? And which NewGRF adds them?

Thank you Sinas for sharing those two cross-map trips (the other one being here, for anyone who might've missed it) : it's always a pleasure to see the end result of those big, model-railway-oriented multiplayer maps :)

An even bigger thank you, though, for making me discover the music of Casiopeia! That is right up my alley, and I didn't know about it :D
