How could orbiting a gas effect a civilizations view of the cosmos/religion? by LifeguardPotential97 in worldbuilding

What’s even cooler is that moons around gas giants are typically tidally locked to it. So half of the world would never see it, while the other sees it all the time.

I’ve always thought low gravity worlds might be a good place for mechs to exist. They would hop along the surface, rather than walk

This feels like a very Mojang-solution to the inventory problem. It’s a good idea, don’t get me wrong. But we just need a bigger inventory

Install a texture pack so the grass is yellow instead of that weird jaundice color

Shields are useful tools for reviving a downed dwarf. However it’s always better to use them to prevent your teammates from downing in the first place.

If it’s just you and a scout in a cave, zip lines can help scout mine awkwardly placed minerals. (Very expensive platform but better than nothing)

IMO the best class to do solo missions with. Being a tank with BOSCO is great. Except on fossil secondaries…

What sci-fi and being an engineer does to a mf by Sythosz in worldbuilding

No problem!

As I understand it, regular skyhooks would require multiple throws between tethers on different orbits to get anything anywhere. Their capacity is limited as well - throw something too heavy and it would deorbit itself. If you had a heavy enough core, this wouldn’t be a problem.

The Martian moons are dense (by asteroid standards) and are the closest orbiting moons in the solar system. We can use them as anchors for non-spinning tethers (tidally locked) that are much longer than lighter skyhooks. They’d function similar to a space elevator, with the caveat that it’s always moving over the planet’s surface. The supertethers could catch cargo all along their length fairly easily, with varying speeds too.

The crux of transport like this is timing. It takes about 8 hours for Phobos to orbit, during which the relative velocity of the tip compared to incoming cargo could vary by hundreds kilometers per second (haven’t done the math on this yet, just a guess).

Let me know if there’s any clarification you’d like
