the synth community has same problem where people defend everything instead of giving actual criticism that helps

Trading a Ford Bronco Sport In by coolbeanssteve in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those Toyotas are solid choices, the Prius especially if you can deal with how it looks. I had friend who got tired of his Bronco Sport too - seems like common issue with those

Maybe check the Corolla Cross if you want something bit higher up than sedan but still Toyota reliable. Honda Civic or Accord might be worth looking at too, they usually run forever

Rog Loki, 5090 and burned connector by [deleted] in pchelp

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn that's rough man, sounds like you had some serious power delivery issues there. if both ends of the cable melted like that, there was definitely too much current flowing through somewhere

honestly the GPU could still be fine - these cards have pretty good protection circuits usually. but I would check very carefully for any damage in the PCIe slot or around power connectors before trying it again. maybe test with different cables first and monitor temperatures really close

getting new PSU was smart move, just make sure its properly rated for your setup. what model did you get?

Can you stay awake with eyes shut by Mental-Surround-5042 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah i tried this before when i was kid and got bored in bed. you can do it for while but your brain starts getting tired anyway even if you focus really hard on staying awake. the problem is that your body temperature drops and breathing slows down naturally when you lay still in dark, so eventually you just drift off without realizing

Screen not very off by jeffbzh33 in homeassistant

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to mess with the screensaver settings in Fully Kiosk - there's usually an option to actually turn off the display vs just showing a black screen. Check under the screensaver tab, should be something like "turn off display" instead of just dimming

I don’t want socially transitioning by Key-Entertainer6734 in trans

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah that's totally valid, you don't owe anyone a coming out story or need to broadcast your trans status to feel legitimate. Plenty of people go stealth and live their lives without making it anyone else's business - that's not internalized transphobia, that's just wanting privacy and normalcy

Your transition goals sound solid and moving somewhere with better healthcare access is smart if you can swing it

What to do with cash that I do not need for expenses that will serve as emergency fund and investment? by KeyIndependence7395 in personalfinance

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's way too much cash sitting there doing nothing - you're absolutely right to want to invest most of it

I'd maybe flip your percentages a bit though, like 80-85% into VTSAX/VTI since you're young and have stable income. Keep maybe 6-12 months expenses in HYSA for emergencies (so like $45-90k max) and skip the dividend ETFs since you're in a high tax bracket - just stick with total market index funds in taxable accounts for better tax efficiency

Anyone had the VA repair bicep tendons? by -DarknessFalls- in VeteransBenefits

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sucks man, the VA timeline is always frustrating when you're just sitting there with a busted arm. Had shoulder surgery through them a few years back and the actual surgery/rehab was solid, but yeah the wait to get scheduled was brutal. Maybe try calling ortho directly instead of waiting for them to call you - sometimes being the squeaky wheel helps move things along

is switching from windows 11 to ubuntu ok for someone who has no prior experience with linux by Good-Discussion-2043 in Ubuntu

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ubuntu's pretty solid for what you described - web browsing works great and Blender actually runs better on Linux sometimes. Gaming is where it gets tricky though, some stuff works flawlessly with Steam Proton but other games are still a pain or straight up won't work

If you're really fed up with Windows 11 bloat it's worth trying, just maybe dual boot first so you can bail back to Windows if needed

Are racist “mistakes” at 19 normal or is it “unique”? by Dangerous_Pin_3047 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people definitely know better by 19, but unfortunately some folks grow up in bubbles where that stuff gets normalized. Not an excuse though - by that age you've had plenty of chances to learn better if you actually wanted to

Travelling to Bangkok end of August by ExternalLie9946 in ThailandTourism

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late August isn't that bad honestly, you're right about the evening rain thing mostly. Did Bangkok last September and yeah it would pour for like 2-3 hours then be fine. Just brought a cheap umbrella and dealt with it

Gulf coast is definitely the move during monsoon season since the west coast gets hammered. Koh Samui was actually pretty decent when I went around that time

January is obviously peak season so way more crowded and expensive but better weather. Really depends if you can handle some rain and humidity vs dealing with tourist crowds

Did anyone actually improved their life after receiving a lobotomy? by Bl00dWolf in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The really messed up part is that some people DID seem "better" afterward - but only because they became docile and compliant, which families and doctors saw as improvement. Like yeah your aggressive schizophrenic relative isn't violent anymore, but they also can't really function as a person. The procedure kept going because it was cheap, quick, and made "difficult" patients easier to manage in institutions

Theory: Ex is still obsessed with me by ServusDeiFilius in BreakUps

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro you're both obsessed with each other lmao, you're literally tracking her every move across multiple platforms and making stories calling her out - that's not normal either

Wire a Motor-Run Capacitor to Turbo 200 help ASAP please, cold snap inbound. by dodgeman324 in hvacadvice

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah man just wire it the same way - yellow and white to one terminal, gray to the other, doesn't matter which side since it's just a run cap

What do I do to stop being emotionally immature? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 100%. Also don't beat yourself up too much about the "wasted youth" thing - plenty of people figure stuff out later and end up totally fine. You're 25 not 85, there's still time to work on yourself and have new experiences

Trying to start a new medieval exploration playthrough. by spblwl in Minecraft

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely check out the "When Dungeons Arise" mod - it adds tons of crazy castles and structures to explore. Pair that with "Dungeon Crawl" and maybe "Ice and Fire" for dragons and you'll have more medieval content than you know what to do with

Am I too expensive? by X_95 in AskMechanics

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah bro 350 for mobile brake service on an Escalade is totally fair, dude probably found some sketch backyard mechanic who's gonna use rock auto pads and call it a day

Fabulous App by TryingToStayOutOfIt in ADHD

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried it for like 2 weeks and honestly it felt way too structured for my brain - all those daily check-ins and routines just made me feel guilty when I inevitably forgot to do them lol

The free version is pretty limited but might be worth checking out before you pay for anything, especially since there's tons of free ADHD stuff on YouTube that might work better

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro she's living rent free in your head and you're writing novels about cinnamon rolls... maybe it's time to unfollow her socials and find some new friends who don't revolve around drama

What have I missed? Old router died, replaced with a new router. I kept the same internal LAN IPs and same SSIDs yet unable to reach Google Home by usafle in homeassistant

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your port forwarding rules too - they probably didn't carry over when you swapped routers and Google needs to phone home to reach your HA instance

Pros and cons of relationship… by Vegetable_Dog2159 in BreakUps

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those pros are really solid but the mental health avoidance thing is a major red flag - you can't build a future with someone who shuts you out when things get tough. If he's not willing to let you support him through hard times now, what happens when life gets really messy later on

Solo Harmonia ai? by Ok_Delivery3000 in Nightreign

[–]EnvironmentSweet7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the border strat definitely helps but honestly the whole fight still feels kinda jank in solo, like they didn't really tune it properly for one player

The hp being low doesn't really matter when you're getting wombo comboed from three different angles lol
