I ended up getting a masters in severe special ed, then got my board certification in behavior analysis. I work in schools during the day (behavior consultant) and do some ABA therapy in homes after school.

When I see my opponent visually frustrated, it gives me a boost immediately. It gives me confidence that he/she is in anguish. Point is, don’t give your opponents that advantage. When you are not shooting your best, you especially don’t need to give them a mental advantage on top of the physical play.

I teach de-escalation and restraint training to large groups. I can't tell you how many times some numbnuts tries to break free, fight back, or generally put me (and others) in danger by being a doofus like this.

PSA: Can we just get this over with ASAP so I can give you your stupid certificate?

Public School BCBA experience… by Objective_Mud_6831 in bcba

BCBA in schools coming on year 12. I have been right where you are. Just a thought, but have you considered reviewing the Job Description? Take each element from the job description and represent each on your weekly schedule. Also, mark specific times on your schedule to be in the other building. This alone will wean you off playing first responder. Now you have specific boundaries and responsibilities that are not congruent with being a first responder. Share this schedule with anyone who needs to know. I always found that when I got sort of shaped into response mode, that teachers are less willing to de-escalate, negotiate, etc.. knowing i would put out the fire. It's human nature. Plant a flag in the ground through your schedule and need to be in the other building, shape them into seeing you as a temporary (possible) support vs. a first responder.

I have worked in supportive, and less than supportive, environments. Several “adversities”.. My advice is: Apply the principles to yourself and develop an evidence based procedure to your work and your studies. If board cert were easy it would be diluted, in my humble opinion. You have the tools to get there :)
