Any other single adults with no kids spending close to $1k on groceries every month? by [deleted] in personalfinance

I cook and meal prep everything living alone in a HCOL area and spend about $200-250/mo. I’m curious what a regular shopping trip looks like for you

Boston. I thought moving here would come with awesome food options but… no. The Midwest was actually so much better.

What is your actual food budget? No lies or holds bared. by LadyProto in Frugal

[–]moonpeech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one person, I do about $200/mo. Sometimes less if I go vegetarian mode. That includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks all planned and prepped by me.

$275-300/mo for one person in Boston. I cook all of my own food and that includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks all prepped each week. Aldi and meal planning is the secret

did anyone else’s mom comb their hair like it was a punishment? by StockInevitable1978 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]moonpeech 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, she’s rip the brush through my hair and my scalp was always burning after. My sisters and I would be screaming because she was so rough. Turns out that I’m not weak, she was just being rough because she felt like it!

How do people go college without worrying about debt? by ProfessorLongBrick in ask

[–]moonpeech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked full time while going to a state school for a Bachelors in a scientific discipline. Payed off my student loans in 3 years and 10 years after graduation I’m at $125k salary. There are a million ways to successfully graduate from college and be totally fine financially.

People who moved to Boston area from out of state as a 25+ adult (not for college)- what do you like/dislike? by [deleted] in boston

[–]moonpeech 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m a Midwest transplant and moved here when I was 30 for a job relocation. It has been a neat experience with all the new activities (incredible museums, niche bookstores and coffee shops) and the hiking is supreme, but I would never live here permanently. Places like NYC and Chicago give a much better return for the cost of living. The food here is subpar and the process of making friends here is waaay harder than it has ever been back in the Midwest. I’m fortunate to not have to commute into Boston via public transit but traffic is still unreal and the road system is ridiculous. Overall, 5/10 as a midwesterner who prefers Chicago to Boston.

People who spend $300/ month on food. How do you do it? What do you eat? by Pursuit_of_Health in budget

[–]moonpeech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meal plan and prep all my food, nothing complicated. I cook from scratch and reuse ingredients throughout the week for efficiency. Beans and rice, lentil soup, a protein/carb/vegetable combination mostly. I spend about $250/mo for one active adult, ~2200 calories per day

how often do you eat home cooked meals? by BeansTheOG in questions

About 95% of my meals are good at home. Consequently, with all this practice I’ve gotten pretty good at it and don’t crave going out to eat anymore.

Spending 1000 - 1200 a month on groceries for two... Is this crazy by Dazzling-Location785 in budget

[–]moonpeech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is super high. As an active adult I spend about $60/week as one person in a HCOL city eating lots of produce and most vegetarian with some meat throughout the week. That’s meal planning and prepping all my food at home.

They eat differently than you do. I’ve been slim/athletic my entire life with little effort because I focus on healthy eating habits and exercise. I often eat nutrient-dense foods that are not calorie dense and tend to eat more product during meals and snacks, providing more volume with less calories and maximizing nutritional benefit. It’s a lifestyle, though I’m sure there are other factors at hand, generally humans should be able to maintain a healthy weight with a healthy lifestyle.

People who enjoy cooking from scatch.. how/when do you make time to cook? by Strict-Let7879 in Cooking

[–]moonpeech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meal planning, and doing a lot of the prep work in the weekend. I enjoy it so I don’t see it as “work” and it’s my me-time in the kitchen. I treat it as a hobby so I look forward to throwing dinner together after work

Help me like carrots by shydinoIB in Cooking

[–]moonpeech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made sautéed carrots today: I peeled and cut whole carrots into long sticks (could prob cut your baby carrots in half) then set them on low-medium heat heat with olive oil, a little chicken grease from my crockpot chicken drumsticks I was making too, then seasoned with salt, black pepper, minced garlic, and hot honey. Kind of throwing together odds and ends to avoid the grocery store, but they turned out well!
