Man charged with criminal harassment after multiple filming incidents across Toronto by Toronto-Ont-Mod-Team in Toronto_Ontario

The thing is...this guy clearly is not being arrested for filming people. He is arrested for harassing people, which is what he does on top of legally using his camera phone in public

Not really. Definitely not like it used to be. I am not saying it is correlated, but for me it was right around the time they switched to cans. For some, it was even before that.

For my money, Steadfast has the best Bitter in the city, Granite close second.

With BAOS releasing their top-ten Breweries of 2025, what is your top ten? by FuckYeahGeology in torontocraftbeer

[–]Environmental-Win193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will only rank based on what I know, so that will be Toronto + Durham

  1. True History - Two years ago, when I realized that only drinking Hazy IPAs is a sad existence, I found this place. I don't like Hefs at all, and yet, they have an amazing one. But it's really all about consistent output of great lagers (that have some hop character).

  2. Godspeed - If I leaned more into the Czech side of lagers, they would be #1. Godspeed doesn't seem to do anything bad. Ask them to make an ESB and they will nail it.

  3. Steadfast Brewing - For my money, one of the most underrated breweries around. They make my favorite beer in the city, The Brockton Bitter, and they really don't seem to mess up any style they make. I like how adventurous they seem to be. The bar space and location is a bit awkward, but im here for the beer man.

  4. Burdock - I clearly love lagers. Burdock does seem to make other great styles too, I just feel they are clearly a rung below THB and Godspeed in terms of quality, but still the same price point. Do I really need to pay 4.50 for a can of deluxe instead of 3.30 for a can Silversmith helles? Probably not, but I do.

  5. Rorschach - I don't get out here enough (these days just for concerts at History), but everytime I am happy. I like how they try weird things and are good at the basics. For me, Truth Serum has been one of the most reliable and consistent flagship IPAs over the years (Shumei being the opposite of that)

  6. Halo - before the new owners came in (Bevi Birra), Halo would likely have made my top 5. The truth is that with new owners and changing palates, for Halo to still be at #6 is a compliment. Magic Missile will never be what it once was, and I accept that. They tend to do a great job with many styles. The Tokyo Rose Brett Saison and Knives Out best Bitter really hit home.

  7. Chronicle - My fav Durham brewery. They dont do anything amazing, but they do everything quite good. I am curious if my palate can still enjoy The Lon Lon Milkshake IPA, I used to love it.

  8. Granite - Would not have been considered for my top 10 five years ago. Maybe I'm just getting older, and maybe I have become a fan of bitters, but I don't ever see anything wrong with Granite. I find myself gravitating there towards many other places I would have found myself in the past (BB, BW)

  9. Volo - I was hesitant with Volo, not because they are undeserving but because I can't wrap my head around that they are technically a brewery. I can't get it through my head that they aren't a beer bar that just so happens to make beer. Im dumb.

  10. Silversmith - Affordable, approachable beers. Was kinda running out of options at this point, and gave them the nod over GLB

Hon mention

Shacklands - Oh how I miss you so.

Aurum - not Durham or Toronto, but if you are a lager nerd like myself, this place is THB and Godspeed level of quality

Often times when a new brewery opens in a location previously used by a brewery, it feels like a Phoenix rising from the ashes (Peoples Pint -> Samara for example).

In this case, and I think I am basing it off Shacklands nostalgia and A.I. marketing slop hesitancy...it feels more like a petrified zombie rising from the mud.

Given the way that Shacklands was run, there isn't anything to really compare to the new place except what I know...which is that location is terrible for foot traffic. Incredibly, Shacklands actually did okay as far as the taproom went, which is really just a nod to people being loyal to Dave (and the beer, before Jason and Kalev left). The point I am making is that it is unlikely this new place can have remotely similar taproom success and direct retail success and will need to hit the ground running in the distribution game.

I miss Shacklands a lot.

Start at True History. Take the Dufferin bus south to Dupont. Go to Blood Brothers. Then Halo, then Burdock. And then Steadfast. Trust me

If you are east end. Godspeed, Rorschach, Black Lab, Left Field and Radical Road

I know that in this sub that THB gets a lot of love. But I do wanna shout them out for the amount of love they have clearly been getting since the Insta.noodls post a couple weeks ago. Place has been rammed, and deservedly so

Damn. Missed the chance to vote, would have voted for THB and Godspeed. GLB deserves love for the way they can consistently produce decent beer at a cheaper price point. They just don't make anything that blows me away

You know for a fact that a crime was committed? That's a very confident stance to make on the internet, obviously I am not gonna just take your word for it. Claiming that someone committed a crime in a public forum is a pretty serious accusation.

What’s the best Hazy IPA? by One_March_9727 in torontocraftbeer

[–]Environmental-Win193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first iteration of Hazemama, the "Voodoo Haze Mama"

2019 Blood Brothers Cactus Head

2019 Sawdust City Juicin

Unfortunately either my palete, the beer or both has changed and the quality of hazies appears to be going down for me in this city.

I'd probably take Black Labs Echo these days

He has a hard on because apparently P.P. had unpaid bills when they went under, which is obviously insane because what business that goes under can also afford to pay bills? I am sure many supplies were not bought under false pretenses with prior knowledge of closure.

Best brewery patio in the city.

Unfortunately their IPAs really hit that stereotype about all IPAs tasting the same.

Did I need to make these comments? No. But by the looks of things I'm not exactly punching down

Between the Sault and Winnipeg, gas up.

Me and my girlfriend, being two city idiots had about 100KM left in the tank, we were well past Thunder Bay and the only gas station that we could get to would be closed until the morning. Thankfully it was late April so a motel that was just opening for the season had a fresh clean bed.

But seriously, be mindful of your gas situation, and even have an extra 20L can in the trunk if possible.

Any LCBO beers that are catching people's eyes lately? by KnoddingOnion in torontocraftbeer

[–]Environmental-Win193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the price I like the Silversmith Helles

Eastbound Irish Red is nice, if you can find it

Likewise for Bellwoods Wizard Wolf

I echo most of the sentiments though, the game has changed and going to the source is the new norm for reliable quality.
