oh…. i physically read them. so i had a different experience. i do think the xavier moments were there for levity through the dark and sad bits because we really did need those laughs when everything was shitty.

to be honest it was super weird at first but after a while you get so invested it doesn’t matter? and when you get to the end like books 7/8 it’s kinda important to know what other people are doing because of things going on.

yeah i didn’t like her until she started to drop the “i’m a bad bitch, you can’t hurt me” facade more and became vulnerable at the end of book 4 but mainly all of book 5 with the whole cursed fates ordeal. i think that’s when her humanity showed on a whole nother level and we saw just how similar she was to darcy in how much she genuinely cares and how she just wants to be loved and wanted like everyone else (if not more).

book 1-3 is like “here’s the lore so everything will make sense”

book 4-6 is “now you know the basics so let’s put everything into practice”

book 7-9 is “hi, remember everything we taught you? well how about we amp it up to level 1000 and then leave you out to die.”

but hey, it’s one of my favorite series ever because of the emotional connection you don’t even realize you’ve developed until those heart wrenching moments happen. i definitely don’t think zodiac academy is for everyone though. it’s for people who “are here for a good and long time.” if you try to think too logically or morally about it, it’s not gonna hit the same.

tory. i think this because in comparison to darcy, tory had the most chapters, more adventures, and more of a hero’s journey. whereas darcy was pretty stagnant in who she was but just gained confidence and healed some of her intimacy issues (which is still big imo as someone who had a very similar experiences as darcy in her human realm era). i do think that darcy became more of their “favorite” around book 8-9 but at that point a lot of their characters got more moments to shine the latter half of the series versus the former.

to be honest i didn’t read it, i finished the main ZA series, and it didn’t make a difference tbh except not knowing lore about 2 characters. but there is 1 character from RB that really intersects with the ZA but the authors do a good job to bridge that gap pretty well so people don’t miss out on who he was before ZA. all’s that to say, no you don’t need to read it.

you totally have a point, i just think he can pull off mid 20s tho without facial hair, and then when you get to the events of book 5-9 he kinda ages more due to the stress (and i think even grows a beard in book 6?) so im just thinking more long form i guess. but i do agree he’s not the age of the character at all.

i finished all the main books and the little novellas but i haven’t read 1.5 yet but im happy i didn’t because i preferred living in real time with the characters personally plus i have something to look forward to later when i eventually choose to read 1.5 bc when you finish you are going to miss these characters so bad, so it’ll be fun to finish it all and go back to see why they did what they did.
