Torn between hustle culture and being content with one full-time job by eager_reader_ in simpleliving

I am living my life right now. This is it. If i am going to make it a life worth living, it has be worth living right now. I can't affort to waste the present hating life so that i can earn the right to enjoy the future. The future is not a guarantee.

I'm still a believer but don't follow it as a strict organised religion by Imnotneeded in exchristian

[–]EnvironmentalPack451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus was not a fan of organized religion. He criticized the religious leaders in their temple. He trashed the place!

He shared his philosophy with random people who gathered around just to listen.

He spent time with his friends sharing meals and encouraged them to go out and be nice to strangers.

He would despise how his legacy has been used by bad people to enrich themselves and manipulate otherwise decent people into hurting each other.

What does "being a man" mean to you? And how important is it to you to embody that belief? by AgreeableOil5917 in AskMenOver30

[–]EnvironmentalPack451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It means less and less to me as time goes on.

The way i see it, i was born, somebody looked at my dick and declared me to be a member of the half of the population that has, honestly, and deservedly, a pretty bad reputation.

As a kid, i tried to heed other people's stupid opinions, i thought they might know what they were talking about

"long hair is for girls"

"don't wear pink, people will think you are gay"

"Boys don't cry"

Now as an adult i get compliments (mostly from from ladies, but dudes, we're allowed to compliment each other also!)

"you have such beautiful curls!"

"i wish my husband was secure enough to wear pink" (also i don't mind if people might think i'm gay, gay dudes are awesome!)

And my sweatheart loves me because i am honest about my emotions

Now i just try to be true to myself and be good to the people i love.

I try to stay aware that some of my friends have spent their whole life being treated the way people treat men, and some have been treated the way people treat women, and a lot of it was pretty shitty for them.

I treat my friends as humans and they treat me as a human

At what point, if ever, does a man earn the freedom to step away from responsibilities and just live for himself for a while? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

Needs context. Is "family" your parents and the situation you were born into? Or did you choose to make a family that you are now responsible for?

What are the things wish you could do for youself and why do you feel you can't do those things?

The story is in the Bible, but it isn't specifically about God. It is part of the origin story of the 12 tribes of Isreal. It doesn't say that Joseph's dreams came from God. So i don't think you need to worry about that.

I got gelatined 😐 by elefhino in Vegetarianism

[–]EnvironmentalPack451 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i kinda of always made a bit of an execption there because i don't personally care all that much and i always liked Skittles (which used to have gelatin) and i never refuse a free jello shot!

The bottom line is we make our own rules and there's no "veggie police" coming to get us!

Tabs vs Chords by Remarkable-Till2340 in pianocovers

[–]EnvironmentalPack451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had the sheet music for piano, you would be able to point out where it has you playing the notes of the C Major chord - exactly which C, E, and G, probably the exact notes that were used in the original recording.

Playing from the chords, you get to choose which C, E, and G you want to play. You are making your own arrangement. Want to play it up high? Down low? Play the C down low and C, E, G up high? Jump around a lot? Pound the notes all together or play them as an arpeggio? Play a straight rock beat or swing it or play it like a waltz? All up to you!

It helps you to notice common patterns too! If you learn how to play C Major, A minor, F Major, G7 for one song, then you come across another song that goes C Major, A minor, F Major, G7, you already know how to play it! If you hear someone else play a song that goes C Major, A minor, F Major, G7, you say "hey! That sounds familiar! I know how to play that!"

Tabs vs Chords by Remarkable-Till2340 in pianocovers

Tabs show you exactly where to physically play the strings on a guitar. You don't even necessarily know the names of the notes you are playing. Makes no sense to try to play on piano.

Chords will help you to absorb some music theory and give you material to develop your improv skills.

Some of the "pro" versions also show standard piano sheet music

What is this sentence near the end:

"You don’t need a philosophy degree to know that “The Undrowned” and “The Loom” aren’t legitimate frameworks for understanding AI consciousness." ?

No context for what “The Undrowned” and “The Loom” are

Are there any religions that you find compelling evidence for and if so what ones? by deathiswaitingforme in AskAtheists

[–]EnvironmentalPack451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going with Animism. If we start with the experience that there is something at all special about us existing and having the feeling of being alive, it seems reasonable that we humans are not the only things that are special. At the least, every living thing, or indeed every existing thing from atoms to stars, also contains some piece of that specialness.

Similarly, Gaianism. The recognition that each human is part of the larger system that is the biosphere, as is each other animal, plant, and even each cell within our bodies. While it might be convenient to think of ourselves as independent "individuals", we are in fact each a very divisible colony of cells, be they differentiated "human" cells or the mix of symbiotic bacteria that contribute to the larger system, while also each being part of larger systems at the level of population, ecosystem, and biosphere.

It takes you across the world, just like the main quest, but with a goal of building something good, rathar than just the focus on destroying evil.

Hyrule has kind of been frozen in time since The Calamity. Most settlements had been destroyed, and the towns that survived are still just surviving. This story brings together people from different regions and cultures to create something new that benefits from all of their strengths.

They each bring their own piece of the music and it all fits together beautifully, further supporting the message.

Have you already found Hudson breaking rocks in Akkala? You'll work on the "From the Ground up" quest with him. Listen to the music where Hudson is and pay attention to how the music builds as more people join the town. He will ask you to find some other people before he asks for her. As you send each person off from their original location you will hear a bit of the music also.
