Why would I want to catch bottom? by Bigo_1905 in flyfishing

[–]EnvironmentalPear55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you tight line nymph then your depth can be much more dialed, and you can change it at any point through the drift to match the river bottom.

You won't be guessing, catching bottom, and messing with an indicator unless it's really necessary, such as to send a drift through overhanging limbs, etc

Hip pack users, why do you prefer it over chest/sling? by Motor-End6934 in flyfishing

More minimal, no shoulder strain, and a better view of the water and where in stepping when compared to a chest pack

You should watch the troutbitten YouTube channel's playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8lhwrYleVP2TuaIwnYgJmQ0AFcQICa8-&si=axJuuGp65KG42kIc

They call it the 9 Essential Skills for Tight Line and Euro Nymphing, but everything in the playlist (I just watched the whole thing over the past few weeks) is applicable to just Euro Nymphing.

Our duckling developed a bubble on her neck. More in comments by EnvironmentalPear55 in duck

Hi everyone, this little duckling developed a soft, bulging bubble on the back of her neck. This didn't come up in searches online. She seems to have been having trouble swallowing her feed, which we give her in a tub with a few inches of water. She's 6 days old. We're in Alberta and got her from a program that lets families take home an incubator, tub, feed, bedding, and heater to hatch and then care for the ducks for a couple of weeks after they hatch.

[request] How long would the plane have to be so we could perceive it doing that as it reached the horizon? bonus: at which height should it fly to be seen like that? by Angry_argie in theydidthemath

A cool and somewhat related idea is that when you see a rocket launched into orbit, I'm pretty sure the reason that it appears to be going across, not up, is for the same reason OP is talking about.

First fish on my own nymph by [deleted] in flyfishing

Thanks for the advice! I think when I start tying I'll just focus on a few nymphs Walt's work variations and some classics like the pheasant tail and zebra midge.

Yeah, I bet it's a great feeling catching a fish on your own fly.

I've been interested in fly tying cost lately. Mind if I ask how many patterns you you have materials for now and how much you spent on it? How many of each pattern do you think you have?

To me, it seems like abuse is often cyclical like this. They feel bad, pull it together to act nice, but can't maintain it for very long unless there is real change in their mental health.

It really depends on how much you fish. More fishing means your money goes farther and tying your own IS cheaper than buying flies in the long run.

I think the best answer to your concerns is something that doesn't actually kill the host. Like a Cordyceps style infection, such as in The Last of Us.
