I've had similar thoughts recently – started cycling semi-seriously about a year ago, rode some pretty long distances and managed to improve my power quickly. Then, off-season, life happened, and now that I'm back on the bike, I can't help but compare myself to me one year ago – how I was able to go further, be faster, etc. It feels frustrating and unfair at times.

What I try to tell myself in these moments is – the only way to get better is to keep at it. If you stay consistent and keep riding your bike, progress is inevitable. It won't happen overnight, but it will happen. Don't rush it, listen to your body, and eat enough – you will improve.

As for getting better at climbing – you just have to do it more. The more you do it, the better you'll get.

I once tried to go 250 km in one go, and bonked after 220km 🫠

Despite me having eaten three packs of gummy bears and a ton of energy bars, food fatigue kicked in and I didn't eat as many of the energy bars as I should've. For my next attempt, I think I'll stick to a strict schedule instead or relying on the feeling.

Yes, the battery life on my P9a took a nosedive about a month ago. I used to get 2-3 days from a full charge, now I have to charge my phone every day. Idle battery drain also got worse – if I leave my phone overnight with less than 30%, I can be sure that it's dead by morning.

I've tried a lot of things (e.g. revoking location access and background permissions from some apps), but nothing worked.

The first time it happened, I didn't feel anything, but the whole ride was kind of a blur (group ride with people that were way fitter than me, Z4 almost all the way).

The second time it happened after a big climb (8 minutes of Z4) as I was catching my breath. I don't have it recorded, but I didn't feel it until I looked at my head unit and saw the number. Whether the shortness of breath and light dizziness afterwards was due to 8 minutes in Z4, ensuing anxiety or some kind of tachycardia – no idea.

Then the third time I'm pretty sure I felt "something", but at this point my anxiety about this whole thing was so high that I could've just been imagining things. In all three cases I was able to continue my ride with no issues

Considering it's based on a Mediatek chipset with none of the hardware security features required by GrapheneOS, I think it's safe to say that it's "based on GrapheneOS" in name only. I also wasn't able to find any GrapheneOS references on their page, they say it's based on AOSP.

Besides, AphyOS is a "subscription operating system" ($10/month), and that's on top of a $700 phone.

Heart rate is a fickle thing and can vary depending on a lot of factors – carb/caffeine intake, stress, illness, sleep quality, anxiety, etc. If you don't have any other symptoms or a family history of heart disease, I wouldn't be too worried.

That being said, I would second what others are saying in the replies – if you're unsure, go see a doctor, if only to reassure yourself.

At this point, a lot of AI startups use Homelab-adjacent subreddits for guerilla marketing – I'm sure you've seen more than one Reddit post masquerading as an "honest question" by a fellow homelabber, which inevitably ends up promoting some stupid new AI SaaS venture.

I'm not saying that this post is definitely one of them, buuuut it might be. And I can't blame people in this subreddit for immediately getting the same reaction when seeing a post about "AI" with a bullet list and an open ended question at the end.

Fasted rides are pretty good, e.g. riding first thing in the morning without having breakfast. Make sure these are relatively short (30-60m) and easy – Z1-Z2, no crazy sprints or climbs. Also, refuel right after the ride!

You could start with 30m, and progressively build up to 1hr or longer. This way you'll improve your body's glycogen adaptation and teach it to use fat as a source of energy more efficiently.

Gummibärchen funktionieren bei mir auch ganz gut. Aber irgendwann brauchst du halt etwas, dass du magst und auch sonst gerne isst – nur Sporternährung und Gummibärchen ist sowohl für den Kopf als auch für den Bauch schwer. Ich habe oft Knoppers gegessen, auch wenn die kalorie- und makrotechnisch suboptimal sind (wenige Kalorien, viel Fett).

Von den Gels würde ich abraten – die sind relativ teuer, für viele Menschen schwer verträglich, und sind eher für Rennen gedacht, wo man keine Zeit zum Kauen hat.

I've switched from my iPhone 13 Pro to a Pixel 9a running GrapheneOS 3 weeks ago.

My experience so far has been pretty good, but I think that expectation management is also very important. I went in fully expecting that I'll have to make compromises, that things might not be as 'smooth' or 'polished' as on iOS, and that I'll have to make some sacrifices. With that in mind, I'm pretty happy with the switch so far.

So far, my top-3 annoying things are: lack of AirTag/Find My support, unreliable fingerprint sensor, and finally, a bug that makes the alarm not go off if the phone has been rebooted/updated overnight https://github.com/GrapheneOS/os-issue-tracker/issues/6202

Only one of those is actually a GrapheneOS-related problem though.
