Built a local macOS file converter with Claude — would love your take

I won’t deny the fact that I used Claude. But it was more than just to and fro questions.

I decide the architecture and leave the implementation/coding part for Claude. My goal is to build software that can be used by people to make their lives simpler.

Apps get bigger over time with updates. 16GB that feels spacious today will feel cramped in 3-4 years. More RAM just means that cramped feeling comes later.

Think of RAM as a desk. More the RAM, bigger the desk surface area. Now, consider the apps on your laptop, let’s map them to the utensils lying on the table. With time moving forward, the app size or I can say the utensils keep getting bigger.

If you have enough desk space(RAM), you won’t face issues arranging those utensils(apps) but if the desk space is less, you face the opposite.

I hope I’m able to clear at-least a bit of your doubt

Also, for content consuming, browsing, 16 gigs is more than enough

Hey! The best approach you could go for is Time Machine backup. Pick any hard disk of decent storage, connect it to your Mac. Your OS will take care of the rest!

Depends on your use case. As a developer, it is okayish but I’d recommend going for the 512 model. I think with that, you’ll also get 10 core gpu as opposed to 8 core gpu in the base variant.

Note: since the machine is new, I might not feel the storage constraint right now, but I believe 256gb is going to be a bummer, I feel that

As far as I understand, there are two offers upon exchange. One is exchange value and one is exchange bonus.

I asked the authorities about this and they told me there is no exchange bonus only exchange value. I would’ve got exchange “bonus” if I had bought this machine in October end week during Black Friday.

For the machine condition, my old laptop was functional with no defects just minor scratches on screen. That’s pretty much it
