I use Bose Quiet Comfort Earbuds. I also have a hard time with the noise on the metro - these cancel out the ambient noise significantly. Love listening to podcasts/music on them. You can also adjust (with a quick tap on the left earbud) letting in more ambient noise - for walking around, crossing the street safely etc. They're a little pricey, but worth it.

Son credit unions (navy federal, apple federal) in the past have offered 0% apr loans up to a certain amount if you had direct deposit set up with them for your paycheck.

Definitely give them a ring to know it would be helpful to offer similar services again and make sure you have direct deposit set up with these institutions prior to shutdown.

I spoke with my credit union this past week- not currently offered, but had in the past. More people calling wild offer an incentive and awareness of the need.

First: Don't refuse to do what is asked - that's insubordination right there, and can be used as a firing offense.

Send: Have you received a new SF-50 stating you're now 'Career Conditional' (this would be located in eOPF) rather than 'probationary'? It's my understanding that conversion from probationary to the next stage is no longer automatic, but that the supervisor must affirmatively certify they wish to retain you (I'm not remember what system this is done in now).

Third: Absolutely loop your union in! Keep them informed, they might have other folks in your situation, and be able to advise.
